"Ms. Ioainnides's poorly documented notes speak for themselves. While her methods may be well intended, a person will get the impression that she looks down on many of her patients who struggle with mental health issues. If you become one of her patients, do not take this personally as her attitude and approach reflect her defects as a business owner - not her own attempts to promote fairness on a personal level - and such attempts fail hard to the detriment of her practice and client retention. (This is to say, while she attempts to remain professional, she is unable to compartmentalize her discriminatory views in such a way that she conducts sound business.) If you do seek her services, make sure to request your medical records following sessions with her and do not stop if or when she attempts to refuse them. As a patient, you have a legal right to access your own records. When I first requested my records, she attempted to block my request yet after considerable effort, I found a way to circumvent her unwillingness to cooperate. There are parts of her notes which go beyond a mere misplacement of facts. Despite several reiterated explanations of my family background, for instance, she repeatedly failed to accurately document my family history. No less than twenty-six times did she make the same repeated error – and I am going off of her notes which I read while combing over my records. I finally emailed her a copy of my birth certificate out of frustration regarding this issue, yet she refused to respond. Ms. Ionnaides recommended I meet her for sessions at a rate of twice per week. Subsequent practitioners agreed that frequency was excessive. I suspect she did so to maximize her profits and at the time I was receiving Medicaid, hence her services caused a prolonged strain on my budget. I finally ceased treatment with her under the professional advice of another provider. At least two complaints have been filed against her with the Colorado licensing board and you can find those on the DORA website. If you read this review in time, consider yourself lucky as I suspect she has gone to great lengths to remove any unfavorable feedback over her practice. Avoid Ms. Ionnaides's services at all cost. I suspect if Ms. Ionnaides could accomplish as much, she would narrow her patient base down to a selective demographic – and that will come out in your sessions with her. She seems perturbed by much of society within marginalized classes and lower income socioeconomic groups. Despite attempts to conceal her politics, in the course of therapy sessions, one begins to notice that she feels a level of disgust if not outright revulsion towards certain folks. Again, she tries hard to conceal this so the proper way to respond is with compassion - not frustration. It is troubling to realize she is a licensed professional charging fees for her services as so many future patients may be traumatized by her approach. She is deft at persuasion and has this uncanny ability to convince a person he or she is doing quite well - or bad, depending on how either patient perspective benefits her intent in a session. She will then insist that pain is part of the healing process. Her observations are oftentimes inaccurate though a person may feel inclined to agree when in a vulnerable state. This process amounts to hardcore gaslighting. I bought into her narratives then felt off following many sessions. Other professionals advised that her commentary is incorrect and her logic lacks science. Given her first degree in psychology is an arts degree - and not a B.S., a patient should not fault her for lacking proper credentials. Competency cannot be derived from inadequate training. She is the only counselor I have seen in my many years who has damaged my mental health - beyond sessions with her simply indicating a bad fit. I am a much stronger person today than I was as her patient. That would not be the case if I had continued to provide her business."
"I’ve had a great experience with Joanna’s counseling. My son had been suffering with a severe anxiety and I had to pull him out of school because of that matter. Joanna has been so patient and tried to figure out what would help my son thrive without feeling helpless. She provided him with some tools to self-regulate and helped him build some confidence. She has been so kind and resourceful with my son as they talked and played together in the office. Every week my son would look forward to coming to her office to chat and play. I’m truly thankful for all that Joanna has thought him ( as well as me)"
"I have known Ms. Lonnaides for 7 years; The experiences with therapists in the past have not been very good because at that time I did not speak English well (my daughter does speak English), I felt decriminalized and I felt that no one took my daughter seriously because she was young, I met Ms. Lonnaides and it was an immediate connection, she was patient with us, was very kind and empathetic with us, I knew that she could help my daughter and that's how it was, she helped and continues to help my daughter, she is professional, empathetic , my daughter feels safe and feels that she has helped her a lot; I also had sessions (years ago) with her and she helped me with my depression and panic attacks. I am very grateful to her and because of her I realized that my daughter has ADHD, she started with medication and it has been a new beginning, I am grateful because she helped us a lot and continues to help us! You will wonder why after 7 years my daughter is still in therapy? We left therapy once because my daughter was already well but she entered the “teenager” stage and my daughter wanted to return to therapy with her, my daughter and I know that with Ms. Loannides she will be safe and her mental health will be better! Thank you for giving us the opportunity to have a great mental health help!"
"I have seen several counselors before, and I've never clicked with a counselor as quickly as I have with Joanna. I immediately felt comfortable and safe with her. I can talk about difficult topics without judgment, and I know she has my best interests at heart. During our conversations, she is always professional, and it is easy to see that she cares deeply for her patients and genuinely wants to see us happy and thriving. Her professionalism is exceptional, and, unlike some other counselors I have seen, her humanity comes through in her sessions as well. I never feel like I'm talking to an AI, rather I always feel like I'm talking to a human who understands what I'm going through, cares about me as a person, and wants to use her gifts as a counselor to help me and others. She has given me a number of strategies to use in certain situations which have been very helpful, and she has been great at helping me reframe some of my detrimental thought processes. In my particular field, I don't make a lot of money, and she has been very flexible with payments, allowing me to receive the care I need at a price I can afford. She is a great communicator and very responsive to phone calls and emails to schedule appointments and is reliable when it comes to scheduled appointments. She has made herself available in emergencies, and she has helped me through some difficult situations with very little notice, for which I will be always grateful. I highly recommend Joanna and her practice to anyone who is looking for a kind, professional, and flexible counselor."
"My experience with therapy in the past has been so-so, but Joanna changed that. She is genuine, listens, is empathetic, and will help guide you on the work needed to get better. I highly recommend her for your mental health endeavors."
