"A group of 6 of us stayed here for a long weekend - it was perfect for us. Nearby ski touring, beautiful alpine setting, and a cozy/no-frills layout inside was awesome. More spacious than the photos let on, kitchen had most things to cook big meals, coffee, etc. Would definitely come back."
"Was here in the summer of 17, im a minimalist so solar power was perfect, views were phenomenal..we spent time in Ourray and Silverton and saw the sights around the area. The Red Mountain mining camp is pretty cool.."
"We were a bit disappointed by this place. The hwy it's on is very busy, in the summer at least, and while we enjoyed chilling on the patio for quite some time it was very noisy and did not feel the least bit private. While out on the patio a random grifter and his dog showed up asking for water. The cabin is right off the highway. The cabin itself may feel more charming in the winter, but it's really a bit old and dank. The refrigerator was not at a temperature safe for food the entire time we were there and the food we left on the counter (in other thick canvas bags and crates) was invaded by mice and we had to throw most of that food away. There are rules pasted to nearly every surface in the place, and while I get it, it didn't feel overly welcoming. I could go on honestly...it really missed the mark for us in so many ways. It wasn't the worst experience but it was not what we thought we were in for and a stay in Silverton or Ouray would have been more comfortable, and in hindsight, more desirable. Part of the reason we booked this place were the overly positive reviews that describe it as magical and the like, sad to say, I really disagree."
"Exactly what we were looking for. A tiny lone cabin and 13 inches of sparkling snow. A wood burning stove to snuggle up and make smores. Midnight coyote serenades and footprints in the snow the next morning to be investigated. An awesome experience and chance to just be."
"Pros: awesome location close to some great backcountry skiing right out the door or up the road a bit, Solar, indoor plumbing, 2 full beds, 2 twin and a bunk bed, gas stove top and refrigerator. Cons: expensive, no linens, and somehow our reservation got mixed up with another group's which caused an uncomfortable situation. Different than staying in a hotel, but Not really a backcountry hut. Will ski there again, but might stay in ouray instead for the price."
