"Love this place. Comfortable beds, period antiques, hospitable owner. Real breakfast in the morning cooked to order."
"I love this hotel. There is much history here and the aesthetic details are refreshing from modern day hotels. I feel like I traveled to the past. The rooms are old fashioned, but not old. Very charming, clean and comfortable. Wonderful homemade breakfast and the people here are genuinely friendly. A wonderful find on our road trip. I highly recommend staying here. There are a few parking places behind the building, but ample street parking. My car was safe and even the police were friendly and kept tabs on the area. Remember, angle parking on one side of the road, parallel parking on the other side. Wonderful little town."
"This is very much a personal review and as each person has their own likes, tastes, some will see my negatives as a positive (especially in America where quirky rooms are a change from the norm). When I arrived, my heart was already heavy (my partner books all our accommodation) and it immediately made me think of cheap European inns) and when I got to the bedroom, I was aghast. I didn't even take pictures because it is hideous. Heavily accented floral wallpaper, hung pictures straight out of the Haunted Mansion, tiny bathroom and sink in the bedroom. I do understand the heritage of the building, and preservation efforts, but being European where this was all too common, it's seen as a negative and low-budget. Having the heatwave, the room is sweltering and the two provided fans do nothing for the poor quality of sleep. There are also no curtains, just a pull down paper blind, doing nothing to keep the morning light out. The bed is comfy, but any movement is magnified. I was at least looking forward to breakfast, having read rave reviews, but it was a very ordinary buffet with only a few options and not some of the dishes I had seen in review pictures. This is probably yet another business taking advantage of reduced service, but increased prices, following the pandemic (which effectively ended two years ago now). We did look for alternative accommodation, so we could get some sleep, etc, in place of our second night, but far few options were left. We'll have to do our 7 hour drive tomorrow on no sleep, again."
"We really enjoyed our stay at the St Elmo. The location is right in the middle of town and the building is historic. We ended up staying in the miners cave which is a room underneath the hotel that looks like it was converted from something prior. We appreciated the new feel of the room, but I could imagine other guests being disappointed if they were expecting to stay in the classic hotel, especially for the price. The continental breakfast was just okay. We did not try the restaurant."
"Absolutely a beautiful and quiet Victorian hotel. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a relaxing and accommodating stay. The entire staff was very friendly and helpful in every situation. Homemade bread every morning was perfect to go along with the complimentary fresh breakfast served daily. Very nice and clean rooms, the perfect place to stay in Ouray, CO! We will definitely be back!"
