"My daughter has been at this school since kindergarten, she is now in 5th grade. Our experience here has mostly been a pleasant one with few major issues of which were not without resolution. I've only had to enter into discussions with one teacher and one parent for separate incidents. One involved theft, the other bullying. They were both fairly mild issues compared to some of the other horror stories I've read about online. I teach my daughter to stand up for herself in EVERY situation that requires it, never to be afraid to speak out in the face of ANY injustice, be it in relation to her or others. And, most importantly, to seek needed resolution to problems by directly addressing the source. If and when that doesn't produce satisfactory results, enlist the help and attention of anyone (teachers, their assistants, administrators, other nearby adults or parents, etc.) with authority to impact the situation at hand. Then, if that hasn't affected things properly, she comes to me, because it must be an important issue needing immediate attention, and after assessing the info will take whatever steps necessary to sort things out. As for another thief, I told my daughter to tell the kid, who she knew took her stuff, to give it back or I talk to their parents about it. Got it back the next day. She actually handled the bullying on her own by speaking to the bully loudly enough so that everyone around heard. They became friends and I spoke briefly to her parent anyway. My point is that I'm teaching my daughter to take charge with respect to any transgression and I will intervene only when her attempt has failed, with all confidence that I will not. With that being said, she has had great teachers with the exception of one and a decent learning experience. From what I hear, no one really likes the new principal but the reasons may be fairly superficial. I'm not sure what measures he's taken against bullying but that could be a part of it. Some other parents have expressed concern over bullying issues in the past but I don't know of any events that would be considered abnormal in most schools. Overall, this is a good school, with teachers that care, and a fair amount of cultural diversity, although I do seem to notice a kind of separatist behavior, between students and parents alike, that isn't particularly appeasing but may be quite natural -birds of a feather, they say."
"Great staff and teachers. Thank you teachers for your hard work. It really does make a difference when you have a teacher that cares."
"Awesome! Its has only been a year with lowery. I love them."
"I am sad my children have moved on from Lowry, it was a great place for them. We had wonderful teachers, most year. We are hoping the expansion and new administration can bring things back to the calm wonderful place we came to six years ago."
"My child has had a very uneven 6 years here. Some years have been good and others have been awful. The PTO does a good job raising money but it always seems to be the same 30-40 parents at all events and there is little diversity in the PTO. Our biggest issue is with the school and district leadership, our child was the victim of an premeditated assault at the school by another student during an extracurricular activity and the the school basically did nothing about it. Despite the assault, complaints by other students, and a disturbing pattern of behavior, the offender is still in the extracurricular. My son is now afraid to go and hides behind bookcases when the offender's parents pick him up. This administration will not be there for your student in his or her time of need and will hide behind "policy and procedure" at every opportunity. I am glad my child will son be out of this school."
