Hall Ranch Open Space
About the Business
Hall Ranch Open Space is a park and tourist attraction located at 31635 Colorado 7 in Lyons, Colorado, United States. The landscape of rolling grasslands and sandstone buttes at Hall Ranch provides excellent viewing opportunities for wildflowers, animals, and scenic vistas. The institution offers 3.7 miles of difficult trails where horses are permitted but not recommended. Prescribed burns are conducted when conditions allow.
A major construction project is currently underway at the Hall Ranch Trailhead. The goal of this project is to improve drainage, road surface, and overall efficiency of the trailhead. The project includes replacing wood parking timbers with new stone curbing for sustainability. The trailhead will remain open unless closed due to muddy conditions or prescribed burns.
The Hall Ranch area is a transition zone between the Great Plains and the Southern Rocky Mountains, offering diverse ecosystems and habitats for a variety of animals. Visitors can enjoy views of dramatic tilted rock formations, ridges, and the Lyons Formation. The property was originally home to Arapaho and Cheyenne Indian tribes, followed by Anglo homesteaders in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The Nelson House, located along the Nelson Loop Trail, is a remnant of an old homestead from the early 20th century. The institution also offers small business grants, with applications closing on April 19. For more information, visit Boco.org/SBGrant. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, with Friday appointments available by phone or email.

"Great trails managed by Boulder County Open Space and maintained by BMBA (local IMBA chapter). Nighthawk is hiking and horses and only, and has a gradual uphill rise, and offers views of a former quarry. Lower Bitterbrush is an advanced trail if on the MTB and features the infamous ‘rock garden.’ The rest offers great intermediate MTBing and easy/intermediate hiking. One of the highest prairie dog colonies in the county is found on Bitterbrush just below where it meets Antelope, and there’s a bench nearby for enjoying the views. You’ll often see mule deer, notably on the south side of the mountain/trail system."
"One of my favorites! I prefer a longer distance hike, and this hike is 10 miles, perfect. The views are spectacular, always see deer and even a homestead."
"Great place for mountain biking, hiking, running, etc. This trail is heavily used by mountain bikers. There are tons of rattlesnakes. Therefore, I would be extremely cautious and watch where you are stepping. I saw two rattlesnakes in one day and both of the were ready to strike. The prairie dogs are cute."
"Great low elevation open space with good trail options, bathrooms, picnic pavilion and horse trailer parking. Good multi-use trails and hiker only separations. Semi technical mountain bike rides! Note there are no dogs allowed here."
"Views go from great to spectacular in this park, all the trails offer a chance to capture some mountain beauty. There is lots of parking at the main lot along with very clean odor free restrooms and several great covered picnic areas. If your riding your mountain bike through the park and find yourself needing a repair there is a nice bike station at the bitterbrush and antelope trail junction."
