"The ER is served on an urgency basis, and since U of I receives emergency clients for like 1000 miles around, the wait was a little long. However the staff, security, clerical and medical were professional, helpful, kind, caring and clean. It's easy to get lost trying to find the emergency entrance though, that needs help."
"Best E.R. I've been to and actually helps with tooth problems as well as will set you up with any resources you need. Very polite staff!! They actually listened to me and didn't treat me like a number despite how busy they were. They were very patient with me despite my Autism, ADHD and Anxiety all messing up at the same time due to the long drive there and all the pain I was in when I arrived. They explained things very well to where I could understand and didn't treat me like a child or blame my anxiety like other hospitals have tried to and have done in the past. Volunteers went above and beyond as did the nurses and doctors who treated me. THANK YOU SO MUCH for putting the "Care" back in Healthcare when it comes to emergency departments!!! If I ever need to go to this E.R. again (which hopefully I won't lol) then I definitely feel like it's a safe place for me. Thank you again."
"By far one of the worst Emergency Room Experiences I have ever have. The whole department needs to be redone. You wonder why there are so many negative reviews and 1 stars.. Its because who ever is running it needs fired. The whole system is flawed. The nurses and doctors are running around with their heads cut off. We were in a room for 18 hours.. 18.. When we were already a TRANSFER from another hospital. We knew driving the 2 hours to this hospital we would need to be admitted so why keep us in the ER for 18 hours? Don't tell me you didn't have room on the floor cause when we were finally moved to the floor there were 13 open beds out of 28. They did a total of 1 test the entire 18 hours we were there that was clear and unrelated to the compliant that brought us in had the nurses and doctors actually listened to us. arrived at 8pm in a room by 1030, MRI around 2, results to our portal came at 7am but a doctor did not read them to us til after 11AM when our Primary doctor back home got involved. Our son was brought in because he couldn't bare weight on his leg or walk very far. Not a single doctor or nurse felt his leg or asked to see him stand/walk. It took me calling his primary doctor (2 hours away) for her to call and demand actual tests be done. 1 hour after our doctor called the hospital we were moving to a room. And yes Iowa City I would glady talk to someone on the Patient Experience team. In fact I tried calling BEFORE writing a review and I was told nobody was available. SHOCKING! I'll be waiting for a call back but assuming much like the high wait times in the ER it will be a hot minute."
"STAY AWAY FROM THIS ER!!!! This was the worst emergency room experience I've ever had. The nursing staff and attending physician were rude and unprofessional. They asked for a urine sample, and then just left it unattended on the back of our hospital bed. They never collected it. I asked about it three different times, and the nurse who was supposed to collect it responded with, and I quote exactly, "Well, they'll have to wait because I have actual priorities to worry about." There were two other patients in the corridor with us. Yes, they just had us sitting for several hours in the corridor. One of the patients repeatedly asked for water because she was dehydrated, and was refused by the nurse because she wasnt the attending nurse. She then walked to her desk to talk and joke around with the other staff. She could have at least checked with the attending nurse to see if the patient could get some water. The attending doctor, Aguilar, behaved as though we were an inconvenience to him. The patient behind me in the corridor had suffered a small stroke, and could also not get anyone to assist. All the while, multiple nurses and other staff were just either standing around laughing and talking or sitting at their desk on their mobile devices. They also refused to acknowledge my partner as my wife. We ended up leaving with two other patients. Mercy ER down the road was infinitely more helpful. Never again. This was so awful, and it is apparent that the department isn't taking steps to make corrections because they just copy and paste the same response to these comments."
