"Today the chicken was awful! It didn't even taste fully cooked. The baked beans now are just VanCams out of the can. I don't think the use a grill. I don't know about the ribs? Maybe they still taste decent. Would not recommend. So sorry they have no longer any concerns about what they serve. Much better BBQ places in the city."
"We got brisket, chicken sandwich, baked and green beans and cornbread and every single thing was great! They were sadly sold out of pulled pork due to an unexpected large order, but there is no doubt we'll be back to try that and everything else! Great service and almost no wait time!"
"Ordered chicken sandwich special ($8.50ish as of 11/2023). The special comes with chips, a fountain soda, and sauce for the sandwich. Chicken sandwich: dry, relying on the included cups of sauce for any moisture. The chicken was plentiful and overflowed out of the confines of the bun. The flavor of the chicken left room for improvement. Beyond a hint of smokiness, there was little else. The bun was soft and fluffy, but strong enough to handle its job. The soda: appropriate carbonation from the fountain. It was as expected in taste. The chips: chips were not available. I was given a 3"x2" rectangle of what resembled Jiffy cornbread. I like Jiffy, but I have to admit I did expect the cornbread to be from scratch. In any case, it did taste good. Service: nice ladies in he place. Time from order to having the food was minimal. Nice for a quick fix, but there are better BBQ places at similar prices within a short drive."
"I visited for an after funeral lunch with friends at Hartland BBQ. I ordered the BBQ Pork Sandwich with a side of Potato Salad. I asked the counter staff if the Potato Salad was house made and was assured that it was. Let's start with the Sandwich. It was pleasingly large and the pulled pork was generously heaped on the soft heated bun. I do enjoy a buttered and grilled bun for that lovely crisp inside a soft bun texture but they don't do that and the bun was soft and fresh so not an issue. The BBQ Sauce came in three choices, mild, sweet or hot. I chose mild and it came in two very small sealed cups, very small. I found myself wanting more sauce as it was just not enough for the size of the sandwich. Overall, the sandwich was good and hit the spot. Let's discuss the $2.00 "house made" Potato Salad. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. The potatoes were cut way too large, were way undercooked, I think there might have been egg whites in it as I ran across some rubbery slices of something and the dressing was exactly the dressing you'd expect when eating Potato Salad from a tub in the take out section of a grocery store. I highly doubt that this Potato Salad was "house made". I was looking forward to tasting a first class Potato Salad side that complimented the BBQ sandwich and was very disappointed. Note to owner, really great Potato Salad is easy to make, please make the effort as the side dish supports and compliments the main star of the plate. Finally, I ordered water as I don't drink soft drinks, asked for ice tea and found that the only ice tea that they offer is from the soda fountain. I suggest that brewed ice tea would be a good investment for this establishment as more and more folks forgo sugary drinks in favor of healthier options. Overall, I give them three stars. The BBQ is good, as good as any I've had at similar places, they would benefit from easier access to additional BBQ Sauce like bottles on tables, but they lost me with the Potato Salad side and the lack of brewed Ice tea. Would I return? Maybe, to grab BBQ meat by the pound but not for a full meal. The good news, they could fix these issues and do alot better. I hope they do."
"A small barbecue place with friendly staff and good food. We ordered a family option for 39.99$ which is supposed to serve 3-4, I would say three is probably more accurate. We split it in half between two, and it was definitely a lot of food. Ordered it as take-out, and it took what felt like less than five minutes (super impressive). The family platter comes with a full rack, four pieces of corn bread, two sides, and bbq sauce (we chose mild from the mild, hot, or sweet options, and it was a pretty standard bbq sauce - no complaints). The side options are fairly limited. We went with potato salad, beans, and an extra side of coleslaw. Everything seemed super fresh. My favorite part of the meal was probably the beans or corn bread, both excellent. Parking is easy right in front of the shop, and the place wasn’t busy when we arrived at around 5-6 p.m. on a Monday."
