"This is one of my new Des Moines favorites for thrift shops! The staff was so friendly and the selection was awesome - exactly the array of what I am looking for when I go thrifting (clothes and an insane amount of housewares, good art selection and fabulous tag sales)! They don't carry much if any large furniture or lighting options but that's alright I have other places I like for bigger pieces. The one great downside is that the really awesome name-brands that it's fun to score when you go thrifting are often overpriced although I understand they are considerably higher priced when you get them new. Other than that I will be a frequent flyer here!!"
"I want to love this place because they have such a great cause but paying $7-9 for a very basic second hand shirt from walmart? I can't. Seems like most of their clothes are from fast fashion stores and are overpriced. It's a lot of time spent browsing with very few items I feel are worth the money. I have found some gems in their housewares section."
"When I heard a thrift store was opening within walking distance of my home, I was stoked for 2 reasons. First, I am an avid shopper and thrifting is life. Enough said. But secondly and more importantly, a lot of families in this community are well below the poverty level and may not have the resources and/or access to transportation to shop at a big box retailer. And then I actually went to Thrift Mart. The space is nice, clean and inviting enough but I was too frozen by sticker shock to fully appreciate the cosmetic details of the store. I don't know what metric thrift stores use to price merchandise but WOW. Shirts are $7-$8. Dresse are mostly priced north of $10. Pots and pans, especially if it's a set- are CRAZY EXPENSIVE. I shop a lot and I've seen clothing that's $6-$8 BRAND NEW at the original retailer have $9 price tag on it at Thrift Mart. It's ironic that this particular Thrift Mart supports Joppa, a homeless outreach center that is located next door. Because the homeless people utilizing Joppa's services certainlyI rcannot afford the astronomically high prices at Thrift Mart. It's disheartening. I recomended Thrift Mart to a friend and she actually called me and said "I asked for directions to the thrift store. If I wanted to shop at Macy's, I'd have went home." Thrift Mart may as well be at Jordan Creek Mall because the people in this community cannot afford to shop there."
"This was the first time we’ve shopped there, and we were very excited to see fair pricing, quality 2nd hand products, and great customer service. On top of that, the money goes to helping homeless people at the Joppa organization next door. Great job guys!"
"Thriftmart has a wide and unique variety of high end clothing, accessories and home goods. I bought a pair of corduroy pants for $7 (that are worth far more than $7) that are now in my regular rotation. I especially love that all the money goes back to Joppa who is working to help the homeless in Des Moines. A fun store to browse and support in my book."
