"I travel extensively for work and especially to the Des Moines Iowa area. This is my first time staying at this hotel, and from the moment I checked in with the negative attitude of the lady at the front desk, and then into the room that was only so so clean, the experience has been very negative! My biggest complaint about this place are the beds are extremely uncomfortable so if you are looking for a good nights sleep, definitely without a doubt do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. I usually sleep great and probably only got one hour of sleep last night."
"The room was nice, clean. The pool/hot tub were good and we enjoyed the hot breakfast! Close to shopping and restaurants too. Definitely a good choice."
"Dearest reader, I stayed at this hotel for several days. The rooms, while old, are not the worst I’ve seen in my previous travels. Like others have mentioned before, a little make up would spruce this establishment right up! The host was gracious enough to provide a different room when requested. Although I would probably find different accommodations on my next holiday in Des Moines, I do believe with a few changes I would happily return. My advice to the staff would be to work on communication between shifts so there are no misunderstandings. The hotel was almost empty by the end of my stay and I thought it crazy that the empty rooms weren’t being scrubbed down. Both rooms I stayed in had a big dirt spot over one of the beds and the walls had stains from something spilled. Working on these few things, I believe, would increase the number of felicitous customers. Our room was visited by the housekeepers a few times but failed to vacuum or sweep the bathroom despite the specific request. Key cards might stop working if placed close to phones or magnetic items. I’ve never encountered this issue in other hotels before and think the possibility of this happening could’ve/should’ve been mentioned at check in. Jeff was awesome. The two ladies who helped us were awesome. Check out is at 11 and we stayed until then because our flight was later and we didn’t want to spend hours at the airport. Why does housekeeping find it okay to knock on our door and rush us out?? They had the cart sitting in front of our door at 10 am. They also stood with their cart in front of our room waiting for us to exit. Not okay. It definitely made us uncomfortable. I think this was the pinnacle of the reasons why I won’t be returning to this hotel."
"TLDR: Nice pool & hot tub; clean; room needs updates; lousy mattress Ratings (1-5; 5 is best): Pool: 5 Hot tub: 5 (one of the best - no awkward "ledge" at the top!) Cleanliness: 5 Breakfast: 4 Service: 3 Room: 2 Mattress: 1 Detailed review: This hotel is just "OK." The room was clean, but outdated. The bathroom especially needs a freshen-up quite badly, it looks dingy. The paint on the bathroom ceiling (room 307) was peeling. There was a brown stain around the trim & sprinkler (see pics). They were laying carpet in some hallways, so maybe they are working on a major renovation. That would be great, because it's needed (especially bathrooms). I would gut the sink, tub, toilet, bathroom ceiling, fan, lights and just start over. The bathroom also smelled like smoke. The mattress was just plain lousy!!! It was a very springy mattress that seemed like it cost $99 at a discount store 15 years ago. You can do better, Country Inn! 1 Bedroom suite did have an actual separate bedroom with a locking door, which is nice. The price was fair. Lastly, this was a bit awkward: In the morning I had already moved my stuff out of the room, left, came back, ate breakfast. Checkout was 11 AM, so at 9 AM I was going to go back to the room to chill for a bit. The housekeeping staff member was in the room cleaning and almost done when I got up there -- towels gathered, vacuum in the middle, cart in the room -- would have been too awkward to ask them to leave, so I gave up. Front desk told me their policy is to knock, and if no answer they just go in and start cleaning if it appears we have left. So I guess the moral is if you leave for errands, etc, don't put your stuff in your car! If they had mobile check-in and check-out like most modern hotels, this would not be an issue. Most other hotels will also message you via their app to make sure you're out, but it appears Choice Hotels doesn't have that option. I don't blame the staff member, but there really should be a better way to communicate that you have actually checked out. Looking for signs of major renovations and updated, high-quality mattresses to determine if I will return or not. 3 out of 5 overall."
"Had a great time there. My child loved the pool and hot tub. The breakfast was delicious. the staff were very helpful and assisted me on anything I needed. The best part is we stayed in a 1 bedroom suite for a decent price! Definitely stay there again!"
