"Bring a jacket, it gets chilly, beautiful views. The drive is quite long but worth the time!"
"This place is a must visit if you are in Maui. I highly recommend you bring at least a hoodie. It just gets really cold up there. Other than spectacular views of the clouds and the sunset or sun rise. (Note you need reservations for sunrise). Again a must visit."
"There is an admission fee to this national park. The park is well maintained and very clean. You need to make a reservation to come early to watch the sunrise. You do not need a reservation during regular hours. Note: there is no food or gas for sale. Due to the high elevation, breathing can be a little difficult. There are two visitor centers, both have restrooms."
"This was by far the most spectacular sunset I have ever seen in my life. I would highly recommend going at sunset and waiting until the sun goes away(about an hour) to see the stars. The start show we got after was such a beautiful sight to see and everything about being up there in the evening was perfect. I have not yet seen a sunrise there but the sunset was perfect without having to get a reservation or dealt with hoards of people"
"Once you navigate the winding road, you come up to the Haleakala summit and the breathtaking views as you walk amongst the clouds. We arrived about an hour before sunset, found a nice parking spot at the visitor area and settled in for a beautiful sunset. The temperature was definitely colder than our beach house but nothing uncomfortable but I would recommend a jacket. Also be aware that you are entering a national park, and the fee is $30 per car and the wait may delay your arrival to the top, which is another 30 min past the ranger station."
