"I cannot begin to describe how pleasant my experience was staying at Hale Maluhia Country inn. Dave and Miriam are two of the kindest, most faithful, and most welcoming hosts I have come across in my years of traveling. Aside from the property being beautiful, Dave and Miriam ensured my stay was comfortable and pleasant. Coffee was available every morning, the room I stayed in was adorable and clean, and Miriam had treats, fruit, and tea available for guests. The communal kitchen made it fun to talk to other guests and make some meals if you didn’t feel like ordering out. I will highly recommend staying here to anyone who wishes to visit Kona."
"My husband and I stayed at the end of January with Dave and Miriam. We typically stray away from BnBs due to our shyness but took the chance here since the photos inspired the lush and remote feel we were looking for. We did not want to stay at a posh resort. I'm happy to say it was an even more pleasant surprise staying with the Cariveaus! We were warmly greeted upon arrival and given a quick tour of the property before they let us settle in. Our five night stay was nothing short of wonderful. Our suite was comfortable and sylish, kona coffee made fresh every morning, breakfast treats and hibiscus tea served and available throughout the day, lush rainforest scenery accompanied by wildlife noises, and all of our personal requests were happily accommodated. The property felt so homey and leisure! I was in luck that their daughter Christina came to visit as she was able to offer massage services during our stay. I booked a 90 min session with her and she worked around my late schedule preferences. Needless to say this experience itself was incredible and I really enjoyed her massage. If she's around definitely ask to book a session!!! We really felt so at home here. Even sitting on the lanai and watching the scenery around us under the trickles of light rain was a treasured moment in itself. Dave and Miriam made sure to be available to exchange goodbyes when we departed. It was like visiting family and we will be sure to come back and finally book the elusive tea room!! Our stay hearts stayed in Kona at this house of peace!!"
"My family vacation started off pretty rocky in Hawaii. The first three days we struggled to find a place to stay because the resort we had booked ended up having bed bugs when we got there. So each day we were searching for a place to rest our heads. On the 3rd day we were blessed to find Dave and Miriam’s “House of Peace” and it was just the peace that we needed to truly start enjoying our family trip. We arrived for check in and the hosts were so kind and informative. They walked us around the property to point out different amenities that are available such as the hot tub, guest kitchen, the laundry area and the lanai which is the perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee, get some reading in, or you can just watch the many kinds of birds that visit right in the yard! We went up to the Banyan House which had a small kitchenette in it, full bathroom with a huge tub, a king bed and a queen sized futon. It was PERFECT for our family of three, but you could easily sleep 5-6 comfortably. The noise of the frogs was something I had never heard before, and I loved every second of it. We don’t get sounds like that in Alaska so we soaked up every bit of Hawaii that we could. To be in such a lush area with fruit trees on every part of the property was incredible. Our second day there we realized the tv wasn’t working so we let Dave know just so that he was aware for future guest. I told him “don’t worry about it right now because we’re on vacation and shouldn’t be watching tv anyways”. That evening Dave and his son brought up a brand new tv and got it all set up for us-which was truly a lifesaving moment because my kiddo falls asleep with the tv on. We would have made do without, but the hosts were so attentive and wanted us to be as comfortable, if not more, than we were at home. We stayed for a total of 6 nights, 7 days and each day we woke up feeling blessed to be where we were. with the location of the property we were only about 10 minutes away from the fruit market, Walmart, Ross, etc. we had everything we needed within a short distance. We had plenty of space to park our rental car which was awesome! On one of our last nights there my kiddo ended up taking a fall in the tub and cracked one of the tiles around the tub. We let Dave and Miriam know the next day and they were so sweet about the whole situation. First thing they did was ask how our daughter was, which meant so much to her. Our final day at Hale Maluhia Country Inn was amazing. My daughter woke up and wanted to spend time with Miriam before we went back to Alaska. (It worked out perfectly because my partner and I were able to pack our suitcases and prepare for the flight out). They picked macadamia nuts from the trees on the property and also hibiscus flowers and leaves to make a homemade “pretty pink princess tea”. Miriam let Rory pick out the teapot, cups, and plates to use for their tea party. She took the time to really teach my daughter about place settings at the table, how to prepare something to nourish the soul, and how to have a proper tea party. I know that this is a core memory that she will always have now and am so grateful for the love that was present during our time there. Throughout the stay Rory and Miriam would exchange gifts. On our last day Miriam gifted a beautiful pearl bracelet to Rory with a wonderful little note in a gift bag. I know that both Rory and Miriam will treasure their presents from eachother for a lifetime. Our family went to adventure for a few hours and then went back to the house of peace to load up our luggage and head to the airport. We said our goodbyes and were on our way. We reached the airport and realized that we had forgotten one of our duffel bags outside by the porch so we reached out to Miriam to see what we could do about it. She contacted her husband who was already on his was to pick their kiddo up from church and he turned around to grab our bag and brought it to us at the airport. Dave and Miriam are truly stand up people with a property that you will will always want to go back to!"
"This is a MAGICAL place! Such beautiful, lush gardens and birds surround all the guesthouses! At night, the twinkling lights on the HUGE tree in front, and the sound of frogs is quite beautiful, and IMHO, part of 'the real Hawaii' experience! Hosts Dave and Miriam bent over backwards to make my 3-day stay this November very comfortable! Every AM, you can help yourself to fresh 100% Kona coffee and fresh-baked snacks and fruit. I would like to bring my husband back here with me next time!"
"Spent 7 nights in Japanese tea room without glass window. Very noisy at night with frogs singing and dogs barking. We tried to ask if there other room less noisy but host said all the room are the same and we should experience the Hawaii life , but tbn 7 nights without a good sleep is bad….. There ears plug in the room I guess is for the noise but it didn’t help a lot. I just wish someone can remind us before since we stay for a week. Maybe there other room is less noise ? Good : - Host was nice ( the stars is for the host ) - Location is okay ( Need a car ) - Breakfast area quit relaxing To improve : - The shower room floor are all mould , I cannot go in without wearing my flip-flop , that the part I felt very disgust - A lot of decoration (nice) but they are all dusty and old , made me feel like I lived in a very old house. They need to be clean … - The rattan walls in the room are little broken in many places. - Noise problem at night …. At least put some glass windows in the Japanese room ? - Photos need to update on the website. - Roof had something falling time by time when raining … I also couldn’t sleep well because of this , I was scared something will fall on my face during sleep T_T I wish we can tell the host all the issues during our stay but we came from EU we wanted to have enough time for our visit , so we decided to just let it go and enjoy our trip. Also ,when I booked the room tho the website, I was very happy that I found this place. The photos look too prefect. But when I arrived, I was very disappointed and felt misleading by photos on the website. And the price is not cheap , but after staying there, I don't think it's worth the price. Recommend for short stay to experience Hawaii frog night but not for long stay. Anyway I want to thank the host being so kind and helpful. I hope this review can help this place to improve for the future. All the best"
