"in the end, I did not have a good experience here. She is OK as a therapist, I guess, but I always came out of there, feeling bad about myself, and she kind of set up this confrontational dynamic where she would interrupt, and confront me no matter what I said to tell me how dysfunctional I was being. Like if complemented me, and I sort of laughed and dismissed it, she would jump down my throat on that and pick me apart.... and I came here for EMDR, but she refused to give me any EMDR, until in her opinion, my "nervous system had latched onto her nervous system." because she explained that she had trained herself to have a calm nervous . Hmmm. I didn't really agree, if someone is constantly attacking you, they probably do not have a calm nervous system . if she judged me to be exhibiting any anxiety at all, she wouldn't start the treatment. Well, how are you not gonna exhibit any anxiety whatsoever in the therapy session, especially if the therapist is criticizing everything that you say to her and telling you that there's something messed up about you. After paying for five sessions out-of-pocket I got pretty discouraged. I'm gonna be honest because it didn't seem like we were getting any closer to her actually providing me the healing service. So in the end, I felt like she just took all of this money from me and refused to actually help me. I'm not gonna become a perfect person psychologically before I get EMDR therapy.!!! that's the whole reason I'm coming to therapy to get help!!!! it was super aggravating. When I would try to tell a story or talk she kept stopping me and telling me how I was doing things wrong, and I also felt like she was being kind of confrontational. I never felt better when leaving there. I always felt bad about myself. This is a new practice, so I hope that she gets better and that there will be many five star reviews to drown mine out. and maybe we just we're not a good fit. I know she did some kind of military therapy work, so maybe she was using the same techniques on me that she used with tough angry men and that just was not a good fit. but I also happen to be a student of psychology. That's what I went to undergrad for at University of California, and it was really not clear to me what she was trying to do."
