"Closed Tuesday, but we explored the garden and outside buildings. I really enjoyed my previous visit, remarkable exhibits!"
"This place is a gem and should not be missed. An excellent collection of Native American baskets and overall well presented history of Owens Valley and area. The exterior and garden area has original structures, train tracks and view of Mt Whitney that absolutely astounding and so beautiful. The staff is knowledgeable and there gift shop is complete. They don’t charge but please take cash as donations are so vital to their operations."
"Learned a lot about Native American basket weaving from the staff hosting the museum. The laborious crafting and the individuality of the baskets makes them an art form. The rest of the museum has a lot of relics from a bygone era. Nice that people are willing to share their possessions with the public."
"Neat little museum. Admission is free (please do donate a little to support the museum if you can). The exhibits are fascinating and well explained. The native Paiute and Shoshone baskets are amazing! There's a nice grass area with outdoor seating on the north side of the museum, definitely recommend sitting and relaxing there for a while. Parking: plenty Bathrooms: yes, for patrons Water fountain: yes, you can refill water bottles. Food: no. Get your own in Independence after viewing the museum."
"The Eastern California Museum is a great museum to visit with tons of history and artifacts to see. I spent about an hour at the museum, and there are larger items and historical mining and construction equipment outside of the museum. There is also a short native plants trail outside of the museum with amazing views of the Eastern Sierras."
