Reviews of Mojave Desert Lava Tube
"Fun spot to check out while driving thru the Mojave Desert. This location does require off road vehicles. We saw a few with regular cars, they couldn't go where we were parked they had to hike up to it and park on the bottom but the overall ride is a bumpy dirt road. dips and rocks. Not car friendly, but if you dont care then go for it. The tube you climb down into and I hit my head a couple of times walking thru so there is some crouching spaces and bring a flashlight or don't go in. It's really cool inside but just be extra cautious."
"Not too bad of an uphill hike. I'm 60 and did it with np problems. Well worth the hike."
"This is a must-see stop. But it is unmarked. Turn onto Aiken Mine Rd and go all the way to the end. It is a sand road that is very bumpy. The Lava Tube is about 1/4 mile walk from parking. You can see your vehicle from it! This is also unmarked. Turn right on the trail at the area with multiple stick markers. Go up the hill. There is a small trail here."
"Nice spot to explore, last part - the dust road gave our car (not off road 4x4) run for its money, but it is a beautiful area to hike around. The lava tube itself is interesting, and in correct hours, you get the "Sunray" effect."
"A whole lot of lava rock, dirt, and some sand. The drive in from Kelbaker Road seems like a long one and sure it feels like a long drive in a smaller car. Pretty interesting sights in the area and inside the lava tube as well. A bit crowded and with one way into the tube, it could take a while on a busy day. Note: I hear the best time to come is from 12pm till 4pm."
