"48 hours before we departed from home Dollar was texting and badgering us to check in to “save time during pickup”. We prepaid, checked in, sent a copy of our drivers license (front & back), a selfie photo, completed the damage waiver etc. We did everything required and STILL are waiting in a very long line with 1 representative to help us. No advantage at all by doing the pre work. This is ridiculous! Not a great welcome to Maui."

"Beware! I returned my car two months ago at OGG Airport (Kahului, Maui). Since then, I have been spammed three times a day. Even though I regularly report this as Junk mail, they somehow manage to bypass all spam filters. They just won't let go. Such a bloody experience! A nightmare! I never want to deal with them again. ​"

"Do not rent through them!!! Go elsewhere!! All these additional charges and fees when we were not told this (which is illegal!). We paid for insurance through Expedia and charges us an additional insurance and fees adding up to $700+. We will try to go to the highest person we can regarding this issue. We feel absolutely scammed. We paid $500 for Expedia and an additional $700 by Dollar. When it should have been $500. We did not see the invoice prior to signing. We should not be paying over $1200 for a rental car for 7days. Cant get a hold of anyone via phone at Dollar rental!!! Probably because they are so terrible that they had to stop taking phone calls. Ugh also it took over 2 hours to get the car when we were there. Please go elsewhere so you’re not scammed like we were!!! Everyone else’s 1 star reviews are telling the truth and I wish we would’ve looked into the reviews before we booked this"

"I was pleasantly surprised by the exceptional customer service at this rental car agency on 11/17/23. I have a go-to place but for some reason I missed it. Despite my initial crankiness, the staff/lady remained patient and understanding, ensuring my needs were met but to no avail since no other car was available. Although, I must say, the car is in mint condition, so, they redeemed themselves with this one! From the efficient check-in process to the helpful recommendations, every interaction was handled with professionalism and warmth. Her dedication to customer satisfaction truly turned my experience around. I would highly recommend this agency to anyone in need of reliable and friendly car rental services. To get here, cross the street to the train depot. Take the train to rental car station."

"Won’t be renting from Dollar/Thrifty again. Our rental through Thrifty in Oahu was falling apart. Arrived in Maui, only 2 representatives there to check anyone in. Our rep was pleasant. Could hear the other rep talking some folks into every single bit of coverage under the sun, offering them false advice that her credit card didn’t cover personal liability. There was only one car in our “premium” row, which had the check engine light on. There was not a person in sight representing Dollar to talk to, I had to go back in and ask for a manager. Ended up with a beat up Nissan Altima which after driving maybe 50 miles over a couple days also threw a check engine light. The customer service agent I spoke to on the phone was fantastic and set up another car. Dollar at OGG wasn’t particularly helpful when we returned. And once again we had to wait 15 minutes for a car to show up. Talked to a rep at the front desk again who had no interest in helping despite hearing the story. Would have expected an upgrade and not to have to wait for the issues. Replacement was a Kia Optima with cloth seats (not premium in my opinion) and a rip in the drivers door seal, making the wind noise on the highway extremely frustrating. Will be spending the extra money for better service in the future."
