"For such a small airport, having to take a shuttle to our rental car was annoying. After checking in and dropping off our luggage, we went to a security checkpoint. The lady who was in charge of the line mentioned that there was another one down at the end of the airport and suggested several of us go there. After walking the length of the airport and standing in line at the second security checkpoint, my daughter noticed a sign that said individuals with defibrillators had to go to the other line. She is only 23 but has a defibrillator, so had to walk back. My other daughter and I stayed in the line we were in but when we went through, the device went off and the TSA agent asked if I had any replacement joints. When I told her that I had a knee replacement, she seemed annoyed and called for a female officer for a pat down. The sign did not say anything about replacement joints, and it really didn’t take that long so didn’t bother me. They just need better communication and/or signage."

"If checking bags arrive 3 hours early. This airport is in desperate need of a major upgrade given the island's growing popularity. We showed up for a Delta flight well in advance of our flight per the 2 hours guidelines, and it was not enough for those CHECKING bags. We moved 10 feet in about 40 min standing in line waiting for bags to get checked. Delta is partially to blame for this, with the airport sharing the majority blame for antiquated baggage processing. The Delta reps both in checked bags and boarding we're pretty rude dealing with the stresses associated with the antiquity on display and irate passengers."

"Security never takes too long. The staff is very kind and respectful. Minimal yelling at TSA ;) The only down fall is the stores hours. I wish they were open later for later flights."

"Security is phenomenally slow with be effort to communicate what is going on. People jumping into line at security. They talk about agricultural check for going to the mainland. That is great; however, a lot of people are going to another island but no comment until you happen to see a small sign that only checked baggage goes through USDA points. Other checks are at the gate. BTW, TSA pre check was only on one side."

"The Lihue airport serves the Kauai island. The airport is small but busy. Very tastefully organized with murals and pics. I suspect it’s ready for an expansion given the crowds we witnessed both while coming in and departing. It took us a while for both because they are not big enough to handle them. But the people are really nice and the ambience makes up for the delays. Just be prepared to spend a little more time going in and conic out."
