"Cannot say enough about Bike Works and its staff, particularly Farran. My girlfriend and I rented bikes for a few days in lieu of renting a car so we could explore Kona on two wheels instead of four. Both of us come from the Bay Area in CA, where bike shops abound and cycling communities are strong. Hence, we are both spoiled and appreciative of superb customer service and Bike Works did not disappoint!! All of the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful, but it was Farran who provided a superior level of customer service on every level. Aside from providing us with top of the line bikes, he made sure we were fit properly and spent additional time (staying a tad late) on helping us with last minute purchases and fabulous ride suggestions. Additionally, he went well out of his way dropping off lights at Kona Brewing Company after overhearing that’s where we were headed. That kind of customer service is exceedingly rare and it completely sold us on both him and the shop. Also, as a random aside, the coffee they sell at the shop is pretty darn good and way better than what you will find at ABC and grocery stores. THANK YOU FARRAN and staff for a wonderful experience!! We are already looking forward to our next trip and plan to skip the car rental once again. Mahalo!!! John and Linda"
"Fabulous bike shop! Rented a great bike, a Specialized hybrid, and had the best week rolling over road, sand, and volcanic rocks all over Kona. The staff are super: friendly, welcoming to all riders, and fun. (Shout-out to Mark as the funnest.) They also got other sports gear, tons of bike snacks, and coffee. I love this place."
"Great bike shop. Super friendly and helpful staff. I was keen to rent a bike and it couldn’t have been easier. A well built Specialized Roubaix adjusted to suit. Easy as that.. Rob even suffered me joining him on a ride. Definitely coming back."
"Friendly staff with quick and great service. I rented a cervelo gravel bike to guide me to Mauna Kea. The bike came with a repair repair kit. The staff at the shop went above and beyond by fulfilling my requests by installing two water cages, fitted the bike with the measurements I provided and installed the desired pedals I wanted. Would definitely bring my business here again and recommend them 100%."
"I have been cycling competitively living on 3 continents for 15 years and have been to Kona 5 times since 2012. I bought my first TT bike at bike works. I can seriously say: “This is the best bike shop in the world. Period.” It doesn’t matter if you want to rent a bike to ride the local trails/roads, if you want to buy ANY kind of kit/tools/ glasses etc. or if you need a brilliant bike mechanic to fix your high end TT bike before your Ironman race. Here’s how they are different: 1. They really KNOW how to fix bikes (and I mean really, so many bike mechs are useless) 2. They care. About you, about your bike, about your race, about your experience in the island. 3. They go above and beyond and they NEVER make you feel secondary or ridiculous. 4. They are organized and prepared. They get busy - real busy - before races and have to deal with literally thousands of highly strung, OCD, narcissistic triathletes that think the world evolves around them. And they do it well organized, quickly, professionally and with a massive SMILE! ALWAYS! 5. They’ve got fantastic bike kit and will never get tires of trying to find the right size for you :-)! My actual experiences: 1. Race morning: my power meter battery dies when I turn on the bike computer in transition. Transition closes for athletes. Bike mech goes in, finds my bike, changes the battery, calibrates the Garmin (they are official Ironman bike Mechs and have access) - I mean…. I will be grateful for the rest of my life!!! 2. Nail in my tire two days in a row preparing for the world champs destroyed tubes, tires everything in the middle of my training rides - they just fixed it within 30 min, sent me back out (other bike shops will make you leave your bike for 24 hours so they can organize themselves) 3. Day before race pre bike check in - the shop is cramped with anxious athletes - including myself. I’m being ridiculous stressing about my tire pressure (don’t ask) - this one mech, Yao, checks the tire pressure for the 3 rd time, looks me straight in the eye, smiles and says: “this is perfect for the race, we will be there tomorrow morning, come see me if you’re worried, we got you” - I mean, who does that???"
