Reviews of 44 North
"Definitely ask to see the actual apartment you are moving into. When we signed the lease the floor plan had a balcony. Not the case when we moved in. 4 bedroom apartment very dirty. HUGE yellow stain in the middle of the granite countertops is the first thing you see when entering the apartment. Stove is disgusting. Big holes in the living room seating area. The carpet is gross. New carpet in 3 rooms but I guess they decided to skip the 4th bedroom. Management has returned calls/emails but do nothing to fix the problems. Gave it 2 stars because the location is good."
"Terrible management. I have had multiple issues with package pickup and have repeatedly been made to feel stupid. If you ever need to get help from Saul, you’d be better off telling your problem to a wall. If you try to talk to him he will stay slouched in his chair and respond in the rudest, least helpful way possible."
"Don't let the low rent fool you, you get exactly what you pay for. Lived here for 3 years and they're thoroughly terrible to deal with. The building is poorly maintained, the rooms are tiny, the provided furniture is flimsy, and the move-out process and former resident communications are infuriatingly bad. On top of all that, the utilities provider is a nightmare, with inconsistent billing, insane monthly charges, and overall sketchy behavior. And the internet has a tendency to go out on the weekends, meaning you're screwed for at least a day. There are better options in the area, anyways, don't give them the time of day."
"I lived at 44 North for two years while in university. The first few months were great, and my current roommate and I decided to re-sign. Our renewal offer was a bit higher than we wanted, but we were able to negotiate down a bit, but still would be paying around $50/month more for the second year. Shortly after this, we were informed that the management was going to change, and we were apprehensive. The new management (the ones currently running 44) are terrible. We routinely had maintenance entering our apartment illegally, leaving our apartment door unlocked when they left and not even fixing basic things like the floor... just not ideal at all. The communication was terrible, I had to go down to the leasing office a few times to give them my email address again because they 'lost' it. The leasing office hours are inconvenient at best (10am-6pm, closed weekends) and often I would go down to get a package and the office would be closed 1-2 hours early due to being short staffed. Then, they moved two random roommates into the other bedroom in our unit and didn't tell us about it. I had to come home from a weekend away to two strangers living in our unit. They were not sympathetic to how distressing this was, and refused to do anything at all. To this day, they never sent a follow-up email giving us the names and contact information for the new roommates. Some other random negatives: the building and common spaces are not well maintained anymore, there are many holes in the wall and exposed wires. They're petty about damages after you leave, and will charge you exorbitant amounts for basic turnover tasks like repainting and cleaning the carpet. Happy to say I'm finally out; hence the review. Be cautious about signing a lease here, and if you need help the student legal services at UMN are great (free for students!)."
"Good ol times signing the lease here. Nothing suspicious in the lease besides enomorous fees if you leave your apt dirty after you leave. I’m going to be very happy living here. Make sure you use the prospect park light rail to get into campus."
