The park, situated in Ward 6, honors Officer Ross who grew up in the Peter Howell Neighborhood near the park. Officer Ross tragically lost his life while working undercover for the Tucson Police Department on February 18, 1982. In recognition of his service, Officer Ross was posthumously awarded the Scarlett Shield for injured officers. Alvernon Park not only pays tribute to Officer Ross but also serves as a reminder of his dedication and sacrifice. The park is a popular tourist attraction for visitors looking to pay their respects and enjoy the serene surroundings.

"Nice, tidy little park. Often has locals who live in the area hanging out. They have a swing set and a basketball court in good condition."
"Neighborhood park home to a few house less persons, but they are not problematic. A few downed trees after the hailstorm on July 28, 2023. Water fountain and dog fountain. Bags to pick up doggig droppings. Shady areas and open. Volleyball court- bring your own net. Basketball court. Playground with swings and jungle gym/slide. A couple places for picnicing and grilling.I put my trust in parks and rec to remove downed trees soon."
"A really nice park that could really use restrooms but it has a homeless/addict problem that the city and neighborhood are always working hard to deal with. The grass and huge trees make it nice for enjoying the park. great playground they usually keep very clean and a basket ball court. I grew up playing at this park and the out lying neighborhood is filled with wonderful people and lots of dogs On leash. Good to play baseball soccer or basketball."

"Nice and quiet park. The trees provide the only shade. There are 3 tables with grills available. Basketball court, some swings, and a small jungle gym. No restrooms."
