"Somehow we fell into the care of the multidisciplinary cancer team of MD Anderson at Banner Boswell Medical Center. We had been through prior consultations consisting of statements regarding one’s mother or not sleeping at night. Our choices were surgery or radiation and it just wasn’t clear what the best course of action was. With Dr. Broussard, everything was different. My father presented as a healthy 86-year-old with an incidentally discovered slow-growing lung tumor located in a very treacherous part of the lung, near one of the main airways. “If there is one place you don’t want to radiate, it’s the right mainstem bronchus,” we were told by Dr. Ravinder Clayton, the outstanding Radiation Oncologist who explained the data, the risks and benefits of radiation and steered us back to Dr. Broussard. The tumor was located between two of the three right lung lobes, and Dr. Broussard had to make a life or death decision to potentially leave behind tumor or to remove 2 of the three lobes. He took the fork and my father says “saved his life. Getting him as a doctor was almost spiritual.” My mother said, “I almost wish we could go back for visits! He is so knowledgeable, professional, and took the time to explain everything to us. He had an unusually great bedside manner, and excellent communication skills.” We can all honestly say that he had our family’s complete confidence and trust - and I can be a little difficult when it comes to my Dad. Dr. Broussard is exemplary - patient and kind, even when visibly exhausted. He truly represents what anyone would want in a physician – superbly talented and trained, empathic to a fault, and in whom you trust and know he will do the right thing.
