The trauma-centered, holistic approach is incredibly effective. It doesn't hurt that the facility is in a beautiful space next door to the Sabino Canyon National Forest and the sun is shining almost every day. My life was transformed by this magical place. "My life was transformed during my 3 month stay at Sabino Recovery. I had a difficult time as a child. I thought many years ago I had taken care of the events that happened to me growing up and I didn’t think about them as I had buried them deep down inside of me. I thought they were gone and I just had addiction issues that I was unable to control. Little did I know there was a reason why I numbed myself, that there was a connection between my addiction and my trauma. I had no idea I had trauma, I knew that my upbringing was hard but not that it was there affecting me like some invisible ailment. At Sabino I learned a great deal about myself through a very caring team of therapy specialists. In addition to my addiction and trauma I learned that I coped with stress and things that overwhelmed me by shutting down and walking away. At 51 I have spent the majority of my life letting these negative coping skills control my me. I learned at Sabino how to recognize what’s happening and why. To listen to my body, feel my feelings and work with them instead of shutting completely down. Trust me bad days there as anyone would or will but it’s a wonderfully caring, safe place for that to happen. In a nutshell I started tearing down the walls of my trauma at Sabino. I have continued the work I started there over a year later. Everyday I use something I learned there. Sabino taught me the tools to actually live my life instead of exist the only way I knew how. I think the thing that surprised me the most during my time there is I learned that I could forgive the people that were suppose to protect and take care of me. This was shocking to me but very important as I learned. The burden of anger and resentment I carried most of my life was ok to let go of. This more than anything changed the coarse of my ability to love myself and be happy. I am thriving and enjoying my life today because of the work I have done through the guidance of Sabino Recovery. I can’t say enough about Sabino. To put it simply, they saved my life and am forever grateful."
