"Getting in touch with someone who can answer basic questions about this facility, their services, and camps is very frustrating. I have completed all necessary paperwork and was told I would hear from someone within 5 days. It's been two weeks and no one has contacted me. I think more professionalism would greatly this agency's intake process."
"We are lucky to have this gem in our back yards. Their online training and seminars are invaluable and inexpensive for non-professionals like me. I'm waiting for the day when Sensory Integration Intervention, an evidence based approach, gets into the schools!"
"We were reluctant to work with Star given that our insurance is not accepted there and the costs are significant. But we are so glad we took that chance. The team is incredibly knowledgeable and committed to supporting kids - and their families. Worth every penny."
"Our family had a great experience at STAR. We appreciated that the approach includes the whole family and looks at the whole child (occupational therapy, counseling, and more). Our OT was Lindsay and we’d recommend her highly to anyone in need of occupational therapy. STAR was clear up front that our insurance was not accepted, and they provided us a superbill (we requested one each month) that we submitted to our insurance. Our primary insurance didn’t cover anything, but my employer had a supplementary plan that covered a portion, which was a tremendous blessing since these services are expensive. Our 9yo son has strong cognitive skills but struggled in other ways. Our biggest issue was around sleep, and we had tried everything (literally, everything, from psych appointments to Children’s Hospital Pediatric Sleep Clinic to therapy appointments to natural supplements to actual medication and more) over the years but nothing really worked. A friend recommended music therapy, and we did an in-depth evaluation in addition to the weekly class. The therapist who conducted the eval suggested STAR, and we reached out for a comprehensive evaluation. The evaluation was very helpful in showing us how our son was compensating for some “holes” in lower level physical skills with cognitive skills. My husband and I wondered what the OT sessions (just playing) could be doing for our son. We would have parent-only sessions every few sessions to ask Lindsay what she was doing and why, and she explained it all. These sessions also helped us ask questions about what we could be doing at home to reinforce what was happening in the OT sessions. It really did just look like play, but in every session she was working on specific skills with our son. Before we started the OT sessions (I think we did ~35 total OT sessions over a few months, so it was intense), we did a goalsetting meeting where we identified specific goals for things that seemingly didn’t have anything to do with sensory processing. My husband and I were seeking improvements in our son's emotional regulation, sleep, and social interactions. At the end of our program, we revisited those goals and agreed that we had made real, measurable progress on each goal. Our son is sleeping better than he ever has, and of course that permeates every other area of our lives in a positive way. I would definitely recommend STAR’s program, and I would also tell parents that it’s a large investment of both time and money that will pay dividends long-term. We are forever grateful to Lindsay and the STAR team."
"Our experience at STAR Center was exceptional. The insights of the team members were amazing--they were able to provide us with the answers that we had been looking for. The STAR Center staff provided us with recommendations tailored to OUR child. Their approach is different than any I have experienced or read about. We are learning to rethink our parenting strategies and are continually motivated to do so because of the results we have already seen. We have gone from feeling frustrated and essentially hopeless to having a new sense of empowerment when it comes to raising our "sensational child". At first glance, a trip from Arkansas to Denver together with the cost of evaluation and treatment seemed expensive. However, I can say now that it was some of the best money we have ever spent. Worth every penny!"
