"Dr. Heflin saved my son's life I'm sure of it. In May of 2009 my 3 week old baby had already seen our pediatrician several times for so many random things. A crusty oozing umbilical cord, a blocked tear duct, vomiting, and lastly a cough. A cough that turn him blue he was so little not yet 7lbs and turning blue when he coughed. His pediatrician did a chest xray that looked a bit cloudy so she admitted him to Via Christi St. Francis for observation where they did all the usual for respiratory issues. They did swabs and labs and put him on oxygen. When all his tests came back clear and the cough seemed to fade they told us soon as the Dr made rounds they'd be getting us our discharge papers. Dr Heflin took one look at him and asked how long he'd been jaundiced. We didn't notice it, his pediatrician didn't notice it, family and friends didn't notice it. I assumed he was going to have my darker complexion instead of being pale like my husband and daughter's, thought I'd finally gotten one that would look like me. Boy was I ever wrong. Dr Heflin ordered a liver panel right away and once she saw results called in Dr Zayat who took one look at his labs and saw him and suspected Biliary Artesia. She called in the now retired Dr Knight and at just 5 weeks old my son was officially diagnosed and underwent the kasai procedure performed by Dr Knight and the amazing Dr Molik (We're so happy she decided to return to Wichita). Together these amazing Drs saved my boy! Today he turns 9 years old thats 9 years going strong with his own liver! I will never be able to thank these Drs enough. Dr Heflin if it weren't for you walking in that room and seeing that he was so so very sick we could have lost our boy!"
