"When I met Dr. Harris for the first and only time, he walked into the exam room, tossed his clipboard on the exam table and snapped, "What do you want from me?" No hello how are you, no introductions, no handshakes, nothing. Here's why I went to see him: I have been in watchful waiting for a low-grade prostate cancer for several years. I had been going to a doctor in Seattle, but my doctor took a new job, my PSA recently bumped up after being steady for a few years, and I wanted to bring my care closer to home. Apparently Harris doesn't agree with a watchful waiting approach, because as our conversation went on, he was calling into question nearly every pathology result I had ever received, and the decisions I had made based on them. That includes my most recent biopsy which was MRI-guided and *which found no cancer whatsoever*. Putting together the whole conversation, I would guess he thought I was wasting his time. If that's the case, then it went both ways. I won't see a doctor who dismisses my decisions as foolish or stupid. Even if they think I'm being unwise, there are respectful ways to present their case. Overdiagnosis and overtreatment of prostate cancer is well-known in men my age, and almost all of the diagnostic evidence I have received made a watchful waiting approach seem reasonable. If my cancer has taken a turn and I need treatment, show me the evidence and the statistics for folks in my same situation. Are the people who get treatment better off than the people who don't? If they are, I'm totally willing to go there. I'm also totally willing to go outside the region for a doctor who will do all of that for me, and treat me with respect while they're doing it, so back to Seattle I go. I've heard great things about Harris's colleague Dr. Berger. If you want to stay local and to go to Tri-State, I suggest you ask for Berger and not for Harris."
"Does someone know what's the cost for treating kidney stone?"
