"I had my cat Sam declawed there and it still bothers me. The lack of care they had for him… I’ve had other cats declawed and they in no way resembled the experience I had at Maple Hill. I felt like a horrible cat mama in taking him there. No food before surgery. I get that. Poor little guy was hungry and thirsty when he was dropped off. You can’t pick him up until 10 or 11 the next day but you’d think… you’d think… They would at least give the cat some water. Nope. He just laid in the water bowl literally laid in it and wouldn’t stop drinking when I got him home. I have never seen such desperation in an animal. I felt horrible. And he smelled like a dirty dog bed that had never been washed. It was clearly from laying in unsanitary conditions. The crate they kept him in had no water and had to be completely filthy. His poor little paws were pink with blood. They didn’t even clean him up. It was a traumatizing experience for him and for me as well. I had recently handled the dropping off and picking up of my boyfriends cat for the exact same surgery. She was not traumatized at all. She was walking on her feet just fine. She smelled like a cat and was happy. She acted like she didn’t even have surgery. For me to pick up my little guy in this condition was shocking. It was 2 years ago and I’m still apologizing to him for it."
