"We have been here before it was even fully open. Nice apartment and good amenities. But if your car is even half way decent it will get broken in to. Out of control crime. Luckily no one has been hurt walking up on the hundreds? Of break ins. I would love to see true stats from NKC. Sometimes multiple car break ins in one night. I also agree with those posters talking about the management being totally different. Feel like a stranger walking in my own building. The old management made you feel like you were home when you came in. Not that hard to fix all this…..might cost a little but it would be worth it. Save your money on pizza parties that run out of pizza in 20 minutes and hire full time security. Do the math, 100k divided by 200 people is $500 a year. I spent that much on my broken window."
"I came in for a tour. Ashleigh and Kyla was nice and answered all my questions . All the amenities spaces are very clean and inviting. Very pet friendly of all sizes... one thing that stood out was the mini market for convenience for residents. definitely will be moving in"
"My roommate and I moved into the Backyards in January of 2023. Everything was fantastic with the original management company. Very friendly and the building was taken care of. The only concern we had was the numerous car break-ins and stolen vehicles. I was happy every day that my car was still there! In August of 2023, my roommates vehicle was stolen and the leasing office had so much attitude when she needed camera footage. I assume they were so used to thefts, that they didn’t care to be sympathetic anymore. They kept saying an automatic gate would be installed but nothing ever happened. Both old and new management would just send out emails saying they are stepping up security every few months but that was it. With the new management company, EPC, I felt like I was a stranger in my own building. It didn’t have that friendly-family energy anymore and I noticed the building cleanliness started to decline. The hallways always looked so fresh and clean with air fresheners on the walls that kept it smelling nice. With the new company, you can tell hallway repairs and cleanliness is not their strongest quality. We planned to re-sign with the Backyards until they raised our rent by $200+/month so we decided to turn in our 60 day notice and leave. A month before moving out, the office emailed us with a “fantastic” deal saying they will keep our rent the same. To me, that’s so wrong and insulting. EPC management would rather be greedy than keep a reliable tenant. On move out, they wanted to rip out ALL of our carpet and replace with new carpet due to “stains” and “pet dander”. Our carpets looked immaculate so we argued back and they reduced the fee from $1000 to $350. After they wouldn’t send us pictures of these “stains”, they let it slip that NOBODY in the leasing office even looked at our apartment unit. We ended up settling on an amount but if you choose to live here, take pictures of EVERY THING. Before and after move out. It seems EPC likes to see if their tenants will pay whatever bill they send out so protect yourself. You cannot trust these people to be honest or care about your security so please stay aware of everything regarding this complex. -Michael"
"Wanted to do a full review post moving out My roommate and I moved into the Backyard in January 2023. This was when they were under a different management company. The complex is nearly brand new, updated, and modern. Finishes in units are nice, and higher end. We never had an issue with our apartment itself. Amenities are nice considering they are included in the rent. The gym is large with a yoga room, and a weight room which I utilized frequently. After about a month of living at the back yard we realized that there were car break ins and thefts monthly if not biweekly and were constantly being posted on the community wall (with old management). This struck fear for my roommate and I, and we even brought this up to management about why there isn’t a finished fence and gate if these things are happening so frequently. We were told that they “put all the paperwork in to have it approved and it was up to the owners not them”. Being that it’s out of managements hands we let it go. in August of 2023 my car was stolen from the lot. I called the police and had a theft filed. I spoke to management in the am and they seemed actually annoyed and bothered to deal with my situation and or communicating with me via email or the police to get footage. There was not the slightest bit of remorse from the old assistant manager and I felt like I was inconveniencing their time when my car was stolen. Beyond that- there were constant threats to tenants about the use of amenities. For the pool, we were texted AND emailed in all caps almost daily that the pool rules are that we were allowed “two guests” per unit and if not you’d have a violation. They were childish in locking the fence to the pool with a cheap bike lock to keep people out and would often forget to even unlock it on time in the morning. With that being said that was the old management. The management that we dealt with upon move out was pleasant. I liked the people in the office. They helped greatly with noise complaints when our neighbor was blasting music a few times The only issue we had moving out of the backyard was a huge $1000 fee for carpet replacement. When our carpet was not in bad condition. We communicated over email and phone calls for about a week. They stated that their 3rd party carpet evaluator said they should pull the carpet when there was no damage? I offered to even hire a repairman to fix the “carpet snags” and clean the barely visible one stain. We had to call over and over to get someone to walk through our apartment so that we could images taken to prove that our carpet needed to be replaced which in the end it didn’t. We could have spent $1000 on carpet that didn’t need to be replace. In closing- it’s not an apartment I would recommend living at due to my car being stolen and breaking so often. The process of replacing a car is one I do not wish anyone to go through. If you still think it’s a good fit the least you can do for yourself is set up good car security/alarm and or use a wheel lock to prevent theft."
"Since the change in management about 2 months ago, I've noticed some significant differences in the way our apartment complex is being run. Unfortunately, the new management has not yet taken the time to introduce themselves, which is a departure from the prior team who made an effort to get to know the residents. One issue that has arisen is the removal of our resident portal community wall, which used to be a valuable means of communication between residents. We were notified of a change in billing systems, but were given limited information on what else would be changing. I found the community feature to be especially important with the amount of car break-ins and theft we’ve seen (I’ve had a car and bike stolen within the 2.5 years I’ve lived here). It was also nice to be able to communicate if you had lost or found something, or if you had an item you were giving away/selling. When I recently faced an issue after hours, I couldn’t find a way to contact anyone (including security) as the previous contact method was no longer working properly. I called the number that was listed but none of the options were working. I waited until the next morning, only for the new management to appear disinterested and unhelpful. The lack of concern was disappointing and concerning. In addition to the communication and customer service issues, the removal of certain amenities and the replacement of air filters with cheaper options (pleated to fiberglass) have been noticed. It gives the impression that the new management may not be as attentive to the needs and satisfaction of residents as the previous team. I hope the new management takes these concerns into consideration and works towards better communication and resident satisfaction in the future."
