"Only reason we go to this location is because it’s close. This gym is absolutely filthy. Been here several mornings and absolutely NO EMPLOYEES working. Paper towels empty, towels not out for guest, management is rude. When someone is working they mostly stand around. Last week I saw employee wipe down the weights and use the same towel to wipe the drinking fountain. Now all the equipment upstairs is starting to fall apart."
"First, let me say that my personal trainer is fantastic! And the staff are personable and they try hard. But upper management (and I mean corporate office) should stop buying/building new facilities and spend some attention and money on what they have. Let's say access to clean towels is a basic expectation of a gym. But today (again), they had no towels available. Said they would have towels ready in an hour. Hour later, after my workout - no towels! The staff apologize, but first say they're so busy on Saturday mornings they can't keep up. So, we should not come when we're able because they can't provide a pretty basic item like clean towels? This is a recurring problem. Another staff member tells me they don't have enough people or staff hours, and the equipment takes too long (an hour for the dryer). The obvious solution would be more employee hours to provide clean towels and upgrade equipment so the facility can meet the needs of its members. Of course, that would require the corporate office to address the problem since it's beyond the capability of the staff. Other issues (corporate - are you listening?): the potholes have been fixed, but seriously, the parking lot needs to be repaved. This is the first thing prospective members see/experience. I appreciate that the mold on the venting upstairs has been cleaned; quite an improvement. Now how about cleaning elsewhere? The whirlpool in the ladies locker room has a collection of brown stuff in the corners (I'd think it was sand, but there's no source for sand in the club...) that should be removed. It's been there for a long time - months and months. At least they try to regularly remove the ring around the whirlpool. Lastly, batteries aren't that expensive. How about checking the weight equipment and replacing the dead batteries? It's a nice feature for the equipment to keep track of your reps - when it works. So my advice is bring your own towel and blow dryer (yah, they no longer provide those). Enjoy the staff, because they are very nice and really try. But lower your expectations for other things."
"You'd think folding towels and having them available for members that are paying $100 or more per month would be pretty simple, but apparently the teenagers that work here aren't smart enough. The men's locker room is DISGUSTING. Black mold is everywhere, half of the showers don't work, there's a grimy film on the tile floor, the steam room hose is covered in some sort of gunk that never gets cleaned, and the sauna breaks down about once per week at this point. Management doesn't seem to care. This gym is trash and definitely not worth the money."
"A solid gym for what it’s worth. Everything upstairs is good and works fine. However most machines besides the hammer strength machines are pretty outdated and slightly broken. The building is definitely ready for the remodel coming soon. One thing I wish they did that would be an easy fix is supplying towels in the locker room. The front desk is always very kind and friendly. The trainers do a good job as well. Busy at common busy times but empty at other times."
""Room for Improvement in Cleanliness and Maintenance" Review: I've been a member of Genesis Olathe East for a while now and appreciate many aspects of this gym, especially the variety of equipment. For me, they truly do offer all that I need to reach my fitness goals, especially with their investments in boxing assets, and swimming pools. However, I believe there are areas that need urgent attention to ensure a better experience for all members. Towel Service: The inventory of their towels has declined severely. I used to be able to walk in and there were plenty of bath towels, hand towels, and orange-striped cleaning towels. And those cleaning towels were fully stocked among the 2nd floor. Now, there don't ever seem to be anything but bath towels. I've been using 3 bath towels to use for a shower, sweat, and wiping down equipment. I really value good towel service. Gotta get some more towels guys. Family Restroom by Men's Locker Room: I've noticed that the base of the toilet in the family restroom near the men's locker room is not being cleaned regularly. This is a basic hygiene issue that needs to be addressed. Men's Shower Room: Several concerns here: * Both paper towel dispensers are out of order. * There's visible black mold on the ceiling of all the showers, which could be a health concern. * The shower closest to the steam room is extremely difficult to turn off. * The floor often seems neglected and IMHO needs more frequent cleaning, especially during peak hours. * In the steam room, several tiles are broken, and a section of the upper bench is collapsing. I kind of liked it in that it was like having bucket seats in a steam room. That said, it not only detracts from the experience but also may pose a safety risk to some. * The water hose in the steam room has a grimy buildup, indicating it hasn't been cleaned in a while. As a loyal member, I'm bringing these issues up with the hope that they will be promptly addressed. Maintaining cleanliness and proper functioning of the facilities is crucial for a pleasant gym environment. I'm looking forward to seeing these improvements and continuing my fitness journey at Genesis Olathe East."
