Delta Ponds
About the Business
Delta Ponds is a 150-acre waterway site located at 640 Goodpasture Island Road in Eugene, Oregon. This unique natural area owned by the City of Eugene features numerous ponds, channels, wetlands, and riparian areas, providing a rich habitat for native fish and wildlife species. Visitors can enjoy bird watching, fishing, and outdoor activities in this beautiful park along the Willamette River.
The City of Eugene has undertaken a large-scale effort to restore Delta Ponds as a side channel of the Willamette River, aiming to re-establish hydrological connections, improve habitat for various species, enhance water quality, and provide recreational and educational opportunities for the public. The project has received recognition for promoting responsible stewardship of Oregon's natural resources.
With the completion of a barrier-free 1.5 mile loop trail and planned construction of a new pedestrian bridge and trail extension, Delta Ponds offers a peaceful escape for nature enthusiasts and a chance to explore the diverse wildlife and plant species that call this area home. Visitors can also participate in the Volunteer Program to help care for the park and contribute to the preservation of this valuable natural area.

"We have walked around this area several times, sometimes a short part, or a few times all around the ponds. They’re working on finishing it up so you can’t really take a full loop right now but hopefully soon. We saw birds, nutria and turtles. One log even had a turtle and a nutria sitting together."
"A nice little area for observing critters. Blue Herons, Egrets, Box Turtles, Nutrias, Frogs and Ducks! Even saw a juvenile Cormorant yesterday drying it's wings. Bring binoculars or a telephoto lens as most of the area is only viewable from the bike path. Also, beware of Poison Oak in the area that isn't fenced off."
"What a nice walk right in the middle of the city. I wish the trail looped all the way around but it was a good one-way walk. Might wear better shoes next time for the muddier parts of the path. I’ve added some photos from a summer visit."
"Delta Ponds is SO beautiful! Especially in the Spring! Trails, bridges, wildlife, flowers, beautiful trees and more. So far, the homeless haven't invaded. Tons of turtles, fish, birds, ducks and more."
"Beware local unhoused individuals may occupy the restrooms for significant amounts of time especially in the evening. Otherwise, very quiet family friendly place. Lots of wildlife and many opportunities to catch photos of variety of birds Oregon is home to."
