"We had an AMAZING breakfast this morning at Grits N’ Gravy. Everything we ordered was spectacular!! The waffles were light and fluffy. The bacon was crispy. The fried chicken and wings were seasoned perfectly, lightly breaded and crispy. The sweet and spicy sauce that came with the wing's was so good I asked for the recipe. The French toast, scrambled eggs and sausage were wonderful. The onion gravy and buttered grits were the best addition to my sourdough toast and over easy eggs. The bottomless coffee was delicious. Our server Jacob was so kind and attentive. You can tell the chefs put their heart and soul into the meals they are preparing. We loved the vibe of the restaurant and the great music to get your day started."
"My visit to Grits n' Gravy was an unforgettable and delicious experience. As the oldest black-owned restaurant in Portland, the establishment exudes history, culture, and a warm sense of welcoming that truly sets it apart. From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted with a friendly smile and a cozy atmosphere that made me feel right at home. I had the pleasure of savoring the southern fried trout with three fluffy, perfectly cooked scrambled eggs, accompanied by home fries with peppers and onions. It was a mouthwatering combination of flavors and textures that left me wanting more. However, the star of the show was undoubtedly the grits - the most delectable I've ever tasted on the West Coast. Creamy, flavorful, and expertly seasoned, they were the perfect complement to the hearty and satisfying meal. The attention to detail in every dish was evident, and it was clear that the chef's passion for Southern cuisine shone through in every bite. The quality of the ingredients and the care taken in the preparation truly set Grits n' Gravy apart as a culinary gem in Portland. I can't recommend this restaurant enough to anyone visiting Portland, Oregon. Whether you're a local or just passing through, a visit to Grits n' Gravy is an absolute must. The food, the ambiance, and the rich cultural significance make it a standout dining destination that's not to be missed. I'll definitely be returning to sample more of their mouthwatering offerings in the near future. Thank you, Grits n' Gravy, for an extraordinary dining experience that exceeded all expectations and left me with memories of exceptional Southern comfort food."
"I loved it all! From the art and music, the service and food. We were seated right away with prompt service to ordering and receiving the food. Our group of 3 ordered a small breakfast with bacon and toast, a turkey sausage, mushroom and spinach omelets with buttered grits on the side. And the last person did the downtown shrimp and grits. It was all very well made to order. I highly recommend."
