Mt Tabor Apartments

"I've lived here since July of 2019, and I've gotten about what I expected. My studio cost 900 for a little over 300 square feet. Utilities separate. It works for me but I think a flat rate for water/sewage, that you see in other builders would be attractive and keep costs predictable. Also just lowering the rent. Times are hard for a lot of people right now and I can't imagine the market can bare it. Kitchens are old so the layouts are a bit odd and there's not a ton of counter space, but you can fit some extra pieces in for storage and surface area so it's workable for one person. Big sinks are great! My corner apartment has a huge walk in closet with a built in dresser, shelf, and lots of room to hang clothes and store extras. I can fit my bike into the studio comfortably, which is another plus. Radiators clank, often at odd hours - although they seem quieter this winter so far than last year. My bathroom has a small radiator that can be quite hot - be careful! Also, not a lot of outlets and they are unevenly distributed so be sure to get extension cords, etc. That and the leftover built in frame from the old Murphy bed are my biggest grips. Since covid Hawthorne has been much quieter but patrons at the bars have sometimes woken me up. I enjoyed the aesthetic of the building overall, and the with the little benches and desks in the hallways, and during the wildfires it was nice being able to walk around the building to move around a bit. Location is still great - you can walk to Mt Tabor or easily access shopping and restaurants depending on what your comfortable with. Gave my 30 days notice and learned we had a new building manager. He seems proactive so far so wishing him and everyone who lives here the best!"

"Tiny studio at $995, utilities are paid separately, so we are paying around 1.100 for 328sqft. Lead in paint (BE VERY CAREFUL). Tiny studio, with ancient counter tops, cabinets, etc. The building is really nice, with thick brick walls, and the hardwood floors are a plus. The closets are a joke, so tiny you can't fit anything in, but they allow you storage room in the basement which is nice. Lots of noise and pollution from the street. *DEFINITELY NOT WORTH paying 1100 for this* I'm rating it only one star because of the management. I honestly don't know where to start with them. We have been living here for a year and we've seen 3 managers come and go. The maintenance and building managers are doing the best they can, but apparently CandR does not care about their well being so they are understaffed to save $$ and the result is a mess. Things that are not fixed in time, losing files, slow communication....you name it. I am too tired from looking for other apartments to even bother writing. If you decide to live there, think twice before doing so."
