"We recently rented a home in Manzanita OR through Airbnb which was hosted by Meredith Lodging. We were so disappointed with our experience. When we arrived we first noticed a broken window shade on a large picture window covering the view. We then tried to start the propane fireplace so our mom could warm up. It didn’t work. Next we tried to heat some water in the kettle on the stove and it didn’t work either. We called for maintenance which took over an hour, but he couldn’t fix anything and said the property was out of propane. We couldn’t use the stove and had to eat dinner and breakfast out. We also noticed grease splattered on the wall behind the stove, hair in the sink in primary bath and makeup on the sheets. The host felt that an $81 refund was sufficient to cover restaurant meals for our party of 5 which is ridiculous. Airbnb was very limited in the help they could offer and Meredith clearly doesn’t care. We have since seen many Meredith Lodging reviews with bad experiences very similar to ours, even including others with empty propane tanks. It’s astounding that they don’t appear to have a system in place for regular replenishment of a critical fuel. Telling us a propane delivery was missed -after we checked in and discovered the problem- does not absolve them of responsibility. We will never rent from Meredith Lodging again. The home was cute and comfortable but desperately needs better management."
"Our family rented 2 homes in Lincoln City near one another. The day we arrived, there was a respite between back to back ice storms. One of the homes had a pipe that burst. That was out of anyone's control, but Meredith's response to the issue was abysmal. We reached out to them prior to leaving Portland. No response, so called again when we got to town an hour before check in. They then told us of the issue. Cold & pouring, with more ice in the forecast, we were stuck. They gave us 3 other options- 2 in the same area, but unfortunately they wouldn't work. 1 was clearly too small, 2 BD/1 BA (we rented a 3 BD/2BA) & the other was pet friendly fully carpeted & one in our group has allergies. In our car, pouring rain trying to look up the listings on our phones as we spoke to them. We were desperate to get situated & went with the best of the 3 bad options - looked decent, also 3 BD/2 BA, but across town from our family. When we got to the other home, we were sad to see it was much smaller than we thought. Original was 1,728 sf & had an another 672 sf game room with foos ball, ping pong & TV. It had a big great rm vaulted ceilings & large dining that could seat our whole family. Replacement was 1,364 sf (over 1,000 sf less) none of the amenities, tiny living & one little eating nook. SF is not in their listings & in the initial panic, we didn't realize the huge discrepancy. Immediately called to express our concern, understanding the snafu wasn't their fault, but thought it was reasonable to ask for a discount from what we had pre-paid, since the house is not one we would ever have chosen for this kind of trip. The agent told me that she would need approval from management, but she would reach out & get back to me in 15 min. By now, it was 4:00, getting dark with more ice on the way, so after hanging up we decided we really didn't have a choice but to stay. The agent texted me about 25 min later asking what we thought of the house. We replied that although we were disappointed with the downgrade, given the circumstances we would be staying, but hoped that Meredith would be agreeable to giving us some sort of discount. Her response: "Okay i am glad to hear that! I can go ahead and reach out but like I said before, I cannot guarantee anything." I was taken aback by that response, but cold & exhausted, so let it go for the moment. When I hadn't heard anything by the next morning, I e-mailed Meredith & explained the entire situation, certain that with that context, it would be a no-brainer to approve what we feel was a VERY reasonable request. This is the response we received: " Good morning Micheal. Thank you for your patience in our response time. As you know the weather has been an issue for many. You were given many options for this home move and different locations. Our agent went through many different options with you. Some were larger than the home you chose, as it was a home that you had looked at online and liked. (for context, she is referring to the carpeted pet friendly home. We had mentioned in the original conversation with them that we had looked at that one when we were planning the trip, but ended up not being an option due to the allergies) This home is more expensive than the home you originally booked. And the rate was adjusted. (For context, the total stay was only a few dollars different & doesn't change the fact that it didn't work nearly as well for us....or apparently anyone else. Perhaps they are asking too much & that's why it wasn't booked). We understand that unexpected changes in plans along with weather and road conditions can be stressful. We are happy to host your get away. And we are happy to provide you with a 50.00 future stay credit to apply at one of our properties in the future." I think the token $50 credit they offered will go unused because I seriously doubt we will ever stay at a Meredith home again & would encourage anyone else to look elsewhere as well. Side note: The other house required a thorough vacuuming upon move in"
"Meredith vacation rentals sucks. They will not refund your deposit even if you cancel 9 months in advance for a house on the beach that is a guaranteed sellout over the 4th of July"
"Great place for family reunion. We had 8 adults and 5 small children. Few suggestions would be to have more kid friendly plastic dishes, a grill, ice cube trays, a window blind to block sun in front of large dining table during evening meal in the summer, AND the mattress in the bedroom directly behind the locked garage on the left definitely needs replacing, That being suggested, the place gave ample space to spread out, great whale watching from the deck, good location with plenty of parking, plenty of sitting spaces and was clean and tidy. Husband just reminded me that for kid safety purposes, the path by the benches needs to be able to be blocked off to prevent them from running off the cliff at the end ."
"Fantastic company to work with. Great communication. House was as advertised. This was our second time renting from them and we are already planning our next stay. This was our view from our house."
