"I think you can do better. The positive: the staff are very friendly and try very hard to be helpful. The rest of the story: office is very disorganized. I thought maybe they didn't have an office manager, but they do. Dr Shim is friendly but not a good listener. and not invested in his patients well-being. That's really all you need to know. But if you want details read on. I suffered with a CPAP machine for months and months before it was adjusted by wi-fi. I also suffer from a sleep disorder that requires a medication that can only be prescribed by physicians who complete training to prescribe it. Dr Shim prescribed it for me and it has been life changing. Like being in a wheelchair, take the medicine and now you can walk type of life changing. The prescribing doctor (in this case Dr Shim) is supposed to call the patient after 1 month on it to see how they're doing and determine the next dose. Not only did Dr Shim not do that, but when I inquired about what dose to take d/t some side effects his answer was only, "Lower the dose." To what? His MA and I came up with a dose to try. When the second month's supply arrived it contained exactly the same instructions as the first month had. He also completely over-reacted to a misunderstanding regarding my health and the medication I needed. He refused to look at lab work to see that my labs were normal and cut the dose so low I might as well not take it. When I complained to the pharmaceutical company about it, Dr Shim had his office manager call me and discharge me from his practice "since I was unhappy with his practice." He left me high and dry without someone to help me with my CPAP machine or prescribe the medicine I need to function. I am very disappointed. I had thought better of him, but in the end either he doesn't care or he has a very fragile ego. As for me - I'm back to not being functional until I can find another doctor to prescribe. First appointment available in my area is April. Sigh."
"This place sucks. Makes you have extra over-night sleep studies just so they can make more money. (Between what my insurance paid and all the co-pays I had to pay, close to $2,000.)They don't have bathrooms in bedrooms. (They don't even have call-lights or bedside commodes.) You have to walk clear down the hall to SHARED bathrooms that are not cleaned after men use them. The seat is always up, and the floor is always wet. I only saw Dr. Shim for the consult. I had expected more. I had a "Mr. Weiss" PA for my actual results. He prescribed medicine that my insurance wouldn't pay for ($42.36) and was a liquid called Doxepin that was very hard to measure in dose prescribed, and came with multiple warnings on possible side effect of SUICIDAL thoughts!!! When I complained, he changed it to a LARGER dose in pill form, and told me to call him back in one week. When I got the new medicine ($13.59, also not covered by insurance ) it had warnings of causing dementia in the elderly. (I'm 75 years old) Needless to say, I only took it a few times, because when I called him back the following week, as instructed, I was told, "He's busy with another patient." I told her, "He TOLD me to call him!" I tried twice, the second time she told me that I would have to make an appointment to talk to him. I said, "You know what? Just FORGET IT!!!" and hung up on her. That was on July 17...today is Aug 29...I just received ANOTHER bill for $45 for PHONE CALL that I didn't get good answer to!!! DO NOT USE THIS PLACE!!! I am a retired Nurse, I did not take any sleep medication prior to Mr. Weiss prescribing, and I do not NEED any now! SALEM SLEEP MEDICINE PC is dangerous for the elderly!!!"
"I recently visited Salem Sleep Medicine for sleep-related issues, and I was amazed by the outstanding service and effective treatment I received. The staff was welcoming and attentive, and Dr. Shim is very knowledgeable and took the time to listen to my concerns. The diagnostic process was thorough, and the treatment plan tailored to my needs. Thanks to Salem Sleep Medicine, my sleep quality has significantly improved. Highly recommended!"
"Both Dr Shim and Weise are great! I, personally value autonomy and they both allow me to be a part of my treatment planning. The whole staff is friendly and always smiling, I appreciate how they get on the phone and start helping on my behalf if there's an issue with insurance or pharmacies."
"Salem Sleep Medicine is everything you hope for when you are meeting with a medical specialist, the are patient centered and have great bedside manner. Matthew, in billing, and really the entire billing department, has helped me to understand my coverages and even taken the time to figure out options that will work for me as a patient. Matthew in particular has always been kind, courteous, and prompt in his follow up with me in the two or three times I've spoken with him."
