"I was clear with Mike that I needed the boots I was leaving for repair sooner than the 2-3 months he said it would take. I was also clear with him that I was uncomfortable paying the whole cost in advance, worrying that this would lessen his motivation to finish them to get paid. He listened to my concerns and we agreed on a sooner date by which he would finish the job. (I did pay him in advance but I felt heard and that he understood the vulnerable position that puts us customers in). Though it took him 2-3 weeks longer than agreed on, along the way, he was kind and responsible and got them done fairly soon after and called me right away. So far, they are holding up well from the repairs. (Regarding the reviews I just read here, it seems that any trace of snarkyness--on either side of the equation--erodes those critical relationships and trust in our community.) Small businesses are the backbone of this country, so the partnership between community members/customers and owners is important. We appreciate small business owners so much!!"
"My name is Edwin Nunn. Had my pretty worn out cowboy boots in. New soles and heels on and boots are like new. He’s very busy so be prepared for a wait."
"I recently ordered a pair of boots from Portland leather and within the first two weeks the stitching in the heel became detached. A real bummer because I love the look of these boots and they were fairly priced. I called them and they gave me a full refund. They advised me to find a local Cobbler to repair the shoes if I decided to keep them. This is where Albany Shoe repair came in. I read the reviews (bad and good) before going to the shop. There were bad reviews and good reviews. To be clear, I won’t leave a review unless I get 5 star service, or on the contrary, 1 star service. I feel like the 2-4 star rankings is pointless. I just won’t leave a review if it’s average. Some people have bad experiences because they don’t keep an open mind and aren’t clear about what they want done. Mike, a Navy Vet, was welcoming and nice. Their shop is a hole in the wall and I love that part of it. Feels like a secret spot. He quoted me and told me he would try to have it done by the following week. I got a call within 2 days saying my boots were ready to pickup. He went above and beyond to get this done rapidly and by all means charged a fair price for both myself and his business. If you’re skeptical, give Mike a try. He won’t disappoint!"
"I suggest to all that want to try this place to read the reviews. I should have. It took several calls to get my item. (and a long time) Also, read the fine print at the bottom of your claim card. (don't loose it). Also, paying the fee before he fixes the item seemed odd. Since it was taking so long I told him I was coming to get my item and my money and he said I must have not seen the sign in the "office". "NO refunds". Now I know why he collects the money up front. I had to chuckle to myself when I heard him say..."I'm the only shoe repair shop in 3 county's. People come all the way from the coast!" I like to shop local, BUT... I URGE you to look into Salem and Corvallis"
"Horrible customer service and untimely work, if at all…. I took one shoe that just needed a new strap, three months later I went to the shop to see if they were done. He rudely says to me, “If I didn’t call ya, they’re not done.” Another two months later my husband goes in to ask if it is done. He says, “ No, but I’ll have them done by Friday.” Without the “phone call” from him, three weeks later I stop by for my shoe, he’s outside hanging out and asks if I “got the call from him”. I said, “No but you told my husband they’d be done by Friday of three weeks ago.” STILL NOT DONE. I took my shoe at the point, as I’m done with this rude guy. The lady he’s hanging out with says to me, “Too bad for you, he’s the only cobbler in three counties.” He’s not, and I am going to the next town over for this simple strap repair. Since he requires to be paid in full, in advance, we are out $45. I recommend not going to Albany Shoe repair if you care about your shoes and being treated kindly. And not that I care about someone else’s smoking habits, to walk through a plume of bad cigarette smoke to go into his shop was super unpleasant. EDIT: no “nasty” comments about workmanship because there was no work after six months. My comments, which you prove me right with your careless reply, were about horrible customer service and untimely work and are noted as the same in other reviews here. My review is to inform others to not waste time and energy as I did going to Albany Shoe Repair. It’s telling that after not repairing my little strap for six months, while telling us it would be done, I am to blame expecting to “jump” ahead of others instead of an apology for the terrible service. To everyone from the owner noted below, don’t expect your shoes to be repaired inside of six months."
