"Its a great school. My child flourished there. They worked with him on his individual needs on a daily basis. Mrs O. always answered my calls and questions and genuinely cared for the students. He went from so far under his academic goal to surpassing them, and even being put on the deans list."
"My child is getting a good education but there are a lot of things I have been noticing that I do not agree with. One: The teachers do not let them wash their hands after they use the bathroom, they use sanitizer. It is very important to wash their hands. Two: After recess our kids we're playing with chalk and ask the teacher, Ms. Twombly if they could wash their hands, she told them no and to wipe their hands on the ground. Then, she escorted them to the cafeteria for lunch. If I were a cartoon character, I would have had smoke coming out of my ears. Three: Every time they have something going on, we find out three days or less in advance. Their lack of communication is ridiculous. Four: Listening to Ms. Nuzzly yelling at kids and the other teachers are standing there allowing it. Unacceptable. These are kids, stop trying to bring them to your level. They do not know what it is like to be adults, but we know what it is like to be kids. Redirect them. Five: Your child comes home burned from being in the sun too long. Some of the kids ask to sit in the shade and Ms. Twombly told them no. When it is too cold for us to be outside, they let our kids go outside too. As teachers, I expect them to treat our kids as their own. Six: There are too many turnovers every year. I stop bothering to learn their names because I have to start over with new names the next year. There are more reasons, but these are the top six reasons why my child will not be returning to this school. ( The teachers names are probably misspelled, sorry)."
"READ THIS WHOLE THING I AM ABOUT TO EXPOSE THIS SCHOOL Hi i am an anonymous student who used to be part of this hell. And i was an EX MEMBER OF THE STUDENT COUNCIL.The bathrooms are literaly sticky, some rooms aren't used, you get lectured on anything EVEN FOR SMILING AND BLAME IT ON THE FACT THAT A PERSON WAS TALKING RIGHT NEXT TO YOU, you get a detention for everything! Uniform, Homework, Even not having an undershirt and not having the right colored socks. Seriously WHO CARES ABOUT MY SOCKS. There are student-teacher rivalries, Favoritism (Prefering someone for others). This school is only Black & White in their perspective in people but their is more. Black, White, Orange, Yellow, Brown, ETC. No Recess to keep muscles exersized, No Musical or REAL artistic clubs. Celebrations every friday but students don't decide, Teachers curse in front of student and when i was 12 i read a book that was innapropriate for my age and it was for 14 and up and it left me traumatized. In the winter, It is freezing and in the summer, it is freezing. And when the a/c fails they don't take kids out of the school to avoid problems. THEY LEFT US BOILING LIKE CRAWFISH IN THERE!"
"This school should be closed down. I feel like this school deprived my child of his education. How can you put a student out of class almost everyday and not put in place a plan to keep this child learning. I had more than 200 calls from this school in one year Overall the staff care more about policies and procedures than the children education. This is a school not a jail. There are more detentions that rewards. Everyday there are about half of the middle school children in detention. Something is wrong with that to me. Parents are in the front office fussing and cussing all the time. The children at this school are very angry all the time because the more they try to do their best, they come with something else to tear them down. For example, I did all my homework came to school everyday ready to learn but I can't go to class because my undershirt or my socks are the wrong color. How do you want these children to react to this? It really discourage the children and make them want to give up. Somebody needs to do something about this school. I feel sorry for the children who are stuck here"
"Kids get detention everyday for things that do not hinder their education nor the next scholars'. I understand rules and policies but I value education more! Maybe they should think about what happens once a child receives a detention for wearing brown socks under his long pants. A little discouraging to me. Maybe his parents can't afford to wash his black socks every other day. As long as a child is eager and ready to learn, I think this strictly enforced uniform policy is hideous! Coming from a parent of four who attend Harriet Tubman Charter School."
