"YES, true trini, chefs, ambience & cuisine in good ol New Orleans. It all started with a craving from doubles; i lived in Brooklyn for years and fell in love with everything Trinidadian (but especially the doubles) Real warm establishment as far as welcoming, colors, art work, plants and people. I can’t wait to experience the oxtails they serve on Fridays. Thank you to my host/server CJ and to QUEEN LISA for coming to our table to welcome and talk to us personally. ( i did get mine to go that’s why the food is in to-go containers) One love"
"Being Trinidadian i was excited to learn that there was a Trini restaurant in New Orleans on my visit for Mardi Gras. I got some doubles and the oxtail/callaloo/rice and beans and plantains. Everything was absolutely AMAZING. Reminded me of home and the flavours did not disappoint. Definitely recommend to anyone visiting NoLa."
"I learned about this place from TicTok, so my family and I decided to dine in while in town for an event. The service was very good! The owner, Queen Lisa, came out and spoke with us. The menu is small, but that gave me the impression of “quality over quantity”, which is always good in my book! Here are the Pros and Cons: Pros: -Wonderful customer service. Owner was super friendly, and engaging. While walking out, the staff thanked us for coming in. -clean and neat dining area -Fish and Chips: very flavorful and fried to perfection! 10/10! -Jerk chicken: The sauce was very flavorful, however…we found it difficult to enjoy due to the high number of tiny bones we ran into while chewing. -Island stir fry cabbage: Delicious! Just the right texture, loaded with flavor,10/10! -Rice and peas: also delicious, but they were not as hot( in temperature) compared to the other food items on the plate. -Oxtails: I came to the restaurant wanting to try the oxtails. When I did not see them on the menu, I asked the waitress if they still served oxtails. She told me yes, but only on Saturday’s and Sunday’s. Lucky me, I there on a Saturday, so I ordered the item. Delicious sauce! Meat was flavorful, however I personally felt the oxtails could have been just a tad bit more tender. -Curried chickpeas on flatbread. I ordered this item to go. As a token of the owner’s appreciation, this item was on the house! The flatbread was light and flaky, paired well with the chickpeas, cucumber, and sauce toppings! Got the spicy sauce, was a little too hot for me. Next time I will try the mild sauce option. Overall, was delicious, 10/10. Cons: -Location: Leaves much to be desired, but the best places to eat are usually off the grid! -Even though our waitress was super duper sweet, she was very soft spoken. We had to ask her to repeat herself pretty often, even after asking her if she could speak loudly. -I was verbally told of the oxtails only served on certain days. However, that information was not on the menu. It was a good thing I asked, otherwise I would have never known the restaurant serves oxtails. My advice is to add the oxtails to the menu, along with the specific days they are served. It was me and my family’s first time visiting Queen Trini Lisa’s Island Soul Food Restaurant. We all agreed the next time we are in town, we will be returning!"
"The Queen rocks the house! One of party said they just had the best fish sandwich they ever tasted. The combo platter I shared with Jerk and curry chicken was 5 stars of flavor! The sides were amazing- got the cabbage and spinach. Probably without a doubt the best Caribbean food we ever had for sure!"
"This is a great neighborhood spot and the staff are very friendly. Queen Lisa herself came to our table and shared her story and passion for food with my party. She has a heart of gold which is evident in the way she cooks. My partner is from the Caribbean and loved this meal— it is truly authentic. The spices are even sourced from the Caribbean to ensure consistent flavor. Our dishes were very vibrant without being overwhelming, which is a difficult balance to find. We ordered plantains, the oxtail special, jerk chicken, and curry chicken which were all delicious. Prices are very reasonable and it’s BYOB which all allow for an affordable meal out. I recommend this for a casual dinner or even for pick-up. There are also some outside picnic tables if you care to have your meal when the weather permits. Def recommend coming here and I hope you get the opportunity to speak with Lisa and experience her food."
