About the Schmidt House
Schmidt House, located at 330 Schmidt Place Southwest in Tumwater, Washington, is a historic museum and tourist attraction that was acquired by the Olympia Tumwater Foundation in 1983. Built in 1904 for Olympia Brewing Company founder Leopold Schmidt and his wife Johanna, the elegant home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is within the Tumwater Historic District. The picturesque grounds feature native gardens, a reflective pool, and statues brought back from Europe by Leopold Schmidt. The house, designed by Seattle architect C. Alfred Breitung, contains the extensive Olympia Brewing Co. archives and is open for tours and event rentals. The Centennial Rose Garden on the property is cared for by volunteers. The grounds are open daily during daylight hours and are free for visitors to explore. Guided tours of the house are available for free, and a 3D virtual tour is also offered for those with mobility issues. The History Program at Schmidt House includes tours, History Talks, and guided riverwalk tours of Brewery Park at Tumwater Falls. The house can be rented for private events, such as weddings, a limited number of times per season. The Olympia Tumwater Foundation owns and manages Brewery Park at Tumwater Falls, the Schmidt House, and offers scholarships and grants through its Education Program.

Reviews of Schmidt House
"I went to see the rose garden and now I can't wait to come back and see it in bloom."
"I was honored to officiate a wedding on the property, what a beautiful setting and stunning rose garden as well. We didn't go inside this time, but years ago my brother had his wedding inside and the property is fabulously maintained. Nice place for a wedding or a holiday event, plenty of space for everyone."
"Bob Crims private group tours are wonderful, with 60 years working on site, there's potential for a new story every visit. The building is beautiful and full of local history."
"My daughter's wedding was held here so it will always be special to our family. There's a beautiful rose garden in back and the grounds are well maintained and lovely. The only reason I haven't given 5 stars is because of the lack of access for disabled people due to the many stairs. Besides that it is a beautiful and well cared for historic site. I must add that our event here was several years ago and they may have updated to allow for disabled access."
"What a fantastic venue for a wedding. Karen. Rickie. And Bob are fantastic thank you tumwater historical society for preserving a great Washington state icon. Looking forward to having our special day there."
