"My husband and I just returned from a two week birding trip in the Olympic Peninsula. Since we had never birded in this area before, we hired Carolyn to be our guide for a day when we first got to Port Angeles. What a great decision! She really helped us get a handle on the seabirds and shorebirds, which we were totally unfamiliar with since we live in Kentucky. Carolyn took us to a variety of habitats so that we could get up to speed on what to look for in each place. Not only is she very knowledgeable about birds, habitats, and other wildlife, she also helped us with information about where to bird, and even where to eat, in the next part of our journey. She is also just a lot of fun to spend time with. We highly recommend that you spend time experiencing Olympic with Carolyn."
"Our family of 4 (with a 10 & 12 year old) took our first ever trip to the Pacific Northwest this July, and I arranged for Carolyn to guide us for tidepooling and a short hike at the mouth of the Elwha River. We had a great time, and saw so many different creatures, including crabs, urchins, sea stars, fish, otters, shellfish, and nudibranchs. Carolyn knows a lot about the creatures and their biology, as well as the ecological history of the area. Doing this guided trip helped us better understand and appreciate some of the other beaches and hikes we did on our own later in the trip, and she offered great advice about other places for us to visit, including some indoor stuff the kids loved. She's also just a pleasure to talk to. Highly recommend!"
"What a wonderful experience! Carolyn tailored a 2-day hiking tour based for my wife and I based on the sights we wanted to see and the activity level we were craving. We got to explore diverse areas of Olympic National Park and experienced some beautiful views. Carolyn is super knowledgeable about area wildlife, captured great photos and was pleasant and entertaining throughout. 5-star experience, highly recommend."
"We recently did a 5-day tour with my father-in-law, a retired biology professor who taught college-level courses in Ornithology. I didn't think I would ever meet anyone who knew birds as well as he does until we met Carolyn. She identifies birds by their calls faster than the Merlin app and can spot the tiniest of them in a sea of tree foliage with incredible speed. She knows everything about every ecosystem, plant, and creature on the peninsula, in addition to the history of Native American tribes, current and past ecological issues, and even the best restaurants. She's also very friendly, accommodating, and flexible with itinerary changes. Sincerely, the best nature guide I've ever met."
"We had an amazing day hiking, exploring tide pools, and searching for wildlife with Carolyn! We began with a hike through the forest, where she pointed out interesting plants and explained forest life. This beautiful hiking trail led us straight out onto an amazing beach (Second Beach). Our ten year old daughter enjoyed catching little crabs and shrimp along the way as we hiked out to the rocks to investigate the tide pools. We saw anemones, sea stars, hermit crabs, and many other awesome creatures. Not only is Carolyn super-knowledgeable about the creatures we encountered, but she also has a gift for sharing her knowledge in a fun and engaging way, with both kids and adults alike. We were having so much fun, we extended our day with a longer beach hike, where we were lucky enough to see a peregrine falcon catch a seagull. Carolyn is so prepared-- in a flash she pulled a viewfinder out of her magic backpack and we had an amazingly up-close view of the gorgeous peregrine falcon. Later in the day, she also spotted pelicans, eagles, and even an adorable seal. Our day with Carolyn was absolutely a highlight of our trip. She is friendly, fun and just plain fantastic!"
