"A nice little memorial for a sad event. For most of my life my dad has been a Fire Chief and both my mom and dad have been volunteer firefighters as well so this kind of thing is exceptionally special in our family. We were on our yearly "family Christmas at Myrtle Beach vacation" when we decided to take a day to drive to Charleston to see their fire museum. This memorial was close by and we wanted to pay our respects to the fallen. I didn't know much about the sad event that lead to this memorial until I googled it and read about it during the drive. If I remember correctly I think they have plans to add more to the area where it is located. My mom gave us all pennies to place on all of the names plates. Even the grandkids and great grandkids placed the pennies and were explained the reason why. Doing it with momma and daddy was special even though we didn't personally know anyone because on any call it could be them. Many thanks, prayers and gratitude for all that place their life on the line every time the alarm goes out, to those that gave their life in service to others and their families, as well as those who cared enough to honor them with this special site."
"Beautiful tribute to the Firemen who lost their lives. Verry chilling to stand in the footprint of the building and see the memorials locating where they were found when the fire was put out. Bless the families, friends and Colleagues who were affected by this tragic event. So thankful to know this tragedy made changes to help protect the future first responders."
"I stop by once a year to pay my respects to the Charleston 9. I love that the city has done this memorial, definitely recommend you stop by"
"Somber memorial for 9 Charleston firefighters killed in Super Sofa fire. Highest single loss of life of firefighters since September 11, 2001."
"No words can really describe what you feel when you enter the memorial park. The markers were placed where they found each fireman. The coins, seashells, and rocks that people have left for each fireman is so touching. There are 9 pipe crosses on the front by the road and 9 benches on the inside of the park. It's a beautiful place to pay your respects and a surreal memorial that honors the men who perished that day. All gave some, some gave all. RIP."
