Reviews of Big Red Barn
"What an incredible time. The perfect get away. The rooms are so fun, big red barn...latest stuff but still "not fragile " so we felt at home. Love the fireplace and the shower and bedroom, outside was zen...our walk to the beach was perfect for my COPD husband. Just wish there was less in the kitchen so we would of have to go out more often (Finistere restaurant)! Thank you for the special touches...loved the throw blankets....perfect, thank you"
"We lucked out with this little gem. We loved the peacefulness, location and proximity to the beach, old military fields, killer marine science museum with amazing sea creatures to touch. The bed was incredibly comfortable, loved the big bath - my husband, daughter and I could all fit in there together. We didn't feel like going out to eat after a week of camping on the San Juan islands - so we cooked in their well-equipped kitchen. Our daughter slept in her sleeping bag on the pull out couch. Our three year old enjoyed picking juicy blackberries and plums from their ripe trees and bushes and playing around in the tiny little garden with pond (maybe they should stock the little pond - little ones would love that!). We loved our stay - super cozy little barn with the feeling of home and again, superior location!"
"The owner ran a generator for a roofing project outside the window all day. A request to move it around the corner was met with a surly don't bother me stare. Maintenance for the place has been deferred - vegetation encroaching on the house, refuse around the back, unweeded garden, slime in the pond, noisy refrig, etc. All this for $185 per night plus tax."
"I could stay there forever!!! Just got back from a long weekend at the Big Red Barn, and I couldn't be more pleased. The location was excellent, right along the bluff above the beach. The grounds are so peaceful and relaxing with the sound of the fountain just outside the door. The bed is very comfortable; the bathroom is amazing. Clearly, these folks are interested in their guests' comfort, providing all the little extras from juice and muffins, informative albums about the area, beach towels, etc. Dealing with the reservations, etc. could not have been simpler and more pleasant. The review from four years ago is clearly an error, a review of a different property altogether, not just because I disagree, but this property has no upstairs/downstairs or adjacent neighbors through the walls. This is a stand-alone building, well-maintained and well managed."
"This not not really a charming barn, It is just a large building with a sloped roof in which the upstairs has been divided into several very, very small rooms. There is very inexpensive panneling used throughout, and absolutely no soundproofing in the rooms. You can hear everything your neighbor is doing, including going to the bathroom. The hosts really should not be in this business. They tried to talk us out of breakfast by listing a host if charming little places near by for breakfast. Finally in a huff the jumped in their car, went down to the nearest grocery store, and bought some frozen waffles. It was really sad for both us and them. We booked two nights in advance and tried to talk them through the fact that this was just not working for either of us. They refused to refund our second night. We left anyway and found a great place in Seattle. It was clean, but that is about all we can say for it."
