"A group of us came here for dinner. We ordered: Large Fondue - we didn’t find that it was worth the price. I like Gruyère too but there was something about the cheese that none of us liked so sadly that whole thing went to waste which was disappointing cause that was supposed to be our main star. Smoked trout - good. I would order again. I liked the crispy texture of the rosti combing with the trout. Escargot - delicious! I would order again. Tartare - delicious! So good we ordered another one. Croquettas - good. Didn’t taste bad, but wasn’t overall booming with flavor so good that we all raved about it. I do love croquettes though so it tasted like an average one if that makes sense. Golden beets - I didn’t get to try this since it was already gone by the time it was my turn, but I heard it was good Overall, the service was great, and the staff was super nice. Drinks were good. I would come back and try other stuff but leave the fondue out. Save your money and try another dish."
"A dedicated 4 stars, with a 5 star service. I was so eager for this restaurant to be a new spot in PDX, but the meal I had did not justify the cost. The grilled venison was reasonably tender, and served with thin-cut fries reminiscent of fast food, but higher in quality and a bit crispier. Pretty sure it was Heinz ketchup, not a house-made ketchup, served with it, which is not what I expected from a restaurant that markets itself like this. Everything was on par, more or less. The Raclette service with landrauschinken was a bit disappointing given its small portion presented in a shallow (1/4-1/2in) dish with cheese melting over a tea light. The novelty of the tea light made up for it a bit. I expected the additional meat it was topped with to have more of an aged, dry flavor, but it tasted vaguely like generic ham cubes rather than some thin sliced meat I had in mind. Drink pairing and wine was solid. I really wanted to like this restaurant, but honestly I enjoyed the after-meal fries and chicken tenders from a dive bar down the street a bit more, and it was significantly less spendy. I think it really depends on what you get here to get the right experience. The trout and sausage look great, and I regret not ordering one of those."
"MY NEW FAVORITE RESTAURANT! First, kudos to both Marc(our bartender/waiter), and Lauren(MC of the front). Your attention, hard work, love of your endeavor, and intelligent wit were appreciated. My wife ordered both the trout entree with spaetzel, and trout rosti appetizer. Both amazing, and very different from each other. I had the schnitzel with egg and anchovy, huge and fantastic. The acidic carrot side perfectly broke through the schnitzels heft. Our walnut themed old fashioneds were amazing. (Notice how I didn't talk about my cocktail first, Hun? I also tried unique ciders and a sour cherry beer(wow). Amazing wine list. You know what? Don't go here. I want it for myself."
"We made a reservation but open table free-styled it & put us at the bar or outside, when the only option provided was the time. They were absolutely slammed busy at 830 for our reservation time. We opted to just stay at the bar, really not a big deal. Ash killed it at the bar & provided such a knowledgeable experience of the drink menu (as many of it is Swiss, -at the Swiss restaurant no way?!). Lauren (I hope the spelling is correct? -For both names I’ve said) was an incredible host. I saw her bussing tables, running food, dealing with feisty customers, etc. Ash and Lauren provided nothing but smiles and kindness. For a new restaurant they are going to succeed if they continue to staff such powerful team members. I loved their food! This was such a lovely new staple we will include as our go-tos."
"Gorgeous opening night at Alpenraüsch! Super cozy space with a cozy menu to match. Everything was tasty, with the star of the night being the meat, obviously, as an Olympia provisions location. Fantastic charcuterie, and I had a very interesting venison steak frites which was lovely. Beautifully cooked venison, great red wine Demi glace, crispy frites, perfect pairing with the herb compound butter. Everything you’d expect from a French bistro but the twist being venison. Very cool. Good drinks, awesome wine, great service. We’ll be back for fondue and wine at the bar another time for sure."
