McMenamins East Vancouver

"We love this McMenamins and frequent it once every 2 or 3 months. Typically the staff is friendly, the service great, and the food wonderful. Last night, however, it was not. We arrived at just after 9:00 pm ready to get a couple of beers and fish n chips. We waited for some time to be greeted. The restaurant looked to be less than half full. We were finally greeted by a waitress who shoved two menus in my husband’s hand and said, “Sit anywhere, you have 20 minutes.” I looked at my watch. It was 9:11. I thought they closed at 10:00. We seated ourselves. We were quick to order when the waitress came. She told us we had one choice of ale, as they were out of all others. She brought our food quickly and disappeared (for us). We ate our food, drank our one beer and would have ordered more but we were never approached again. I ran out of water. She did approach with a bill at about 9:45. My husband then took his CC up to her. She told him she’d bring the device to him and he paid. We left. We were out by 9:55 and there were still several customers she was waiting one who were there already when we got there. From start to finish, we felt as if we were an inconvenience to her. My husband typically leaves substantial tips. Since we received only basic service and were treated actually very rudely, he did not."

"Very nice ambiance. Servers are super nice. Happy hour from 3-6pm. The Cajun tots are good as usual. We tried the spicy cauliflower bites but were not too impressed- the breading was too thick."

"We were there awhile before our server came to take our order, even though they weren't very busy. We ordered the Cajun tots as an appetizer and then had to ask a random server walking by our table for napkins and drinks. When our server finally came back to take our dinner order, we decided just to get a brownie to share because we had already been there so long and the brownie was the reason I wanted to eat here in the first place. Someone brought it out fairly quickly, but then we sat for a long time waiting for our check. Service aside, the food was great and hit the spot, and the restaurant has a great layout, not too cramped while still having a lot of seating. Good variety of booths and tables and bar seating, too. I also liked the decorations and casual feel of the place."

"Excellent service and delicious food! We were greeted immediately as we entered by Megan; who was also our server today. McMenamins was hopping and Megan was essentially doing it all without missing a beat! We were celebrating my Mother-in-law‘s Birthday and this was the first time that she had dined at any McMenamins and she left impressed! My husband had the dungeon burger and said that it was delicious, my mother-in-law had the fish and chips and she enjoyed them. I ordered the vegan Gyro and it was amazing, there was a ton of flavor packed into the sandwich! I recommend the Cajun Tots and the Sweet Potato Fries too!"
