"I’ve been going to Dusty Rhodes park for 9 years. It’s a short drive past my local dog park. And, is my 1st choice. Regarding the Small dog side: Pros: fully fenced with functioning fountain and constant supply of poop bags. Large area that provides plenty of room for dogs to roam. Great old trees that provide nice shade. Cons: there are so many gopher holes. And, so much uneven ground. There are days I leave because of the gopher infestation. Chairs, wheelbarrows, and shovels (for replacing the dirt when dogs dig) are often stolen."
"This is a great spot! Please keep your dogs on the BIG DOG side of the fence if they are over 30 pounds! (I’m looking at you, you great big doodle!)"
"Wouldn't recommend bringing dogs here. Unless things have changed drastically the place is essentially a giant field of fresh and old dog poop that you will step in and your dog will be covered in by the time you leave. Stopped taking my dogs here awhile ago their health improved immediately. Both of my dogs regularly got cases of awful diarrhea that stopped immediately after we stopped coming here."
"The dog park is awesome! Separated into large dogs and small dogs (under 30 lbs, I believe), although there is a little bit of crossover for pet parents with both sized dogs! The owners are typically very nice and love all dogs, not just theirs. And the dogs are all super nice... ranging from puppies to very senior pups. My dog is a older senior dog who never learned to play but even the playful dogs are very respectful of her. Plenty of room for fetching dogs, playing dogs, and just sniffing around dogs. Tons of seating for humans. Watering fountain for both dogs and humans. Poop bags and trash cans are plentiful. There is an above-average amount of not-picked-up poo, compared to other dog parks I've been to, so be sure to check your shoes before getting in your vehicle or walking into your home. The City maintains the dog park areas every Wednesday 6am-12pm, so it's closed during that time. It's in OB so the vibe is fairly mellow. Plenty of shade although the ocean breezes prevents it from getting too hot in the direct sun - definitely wear sunscreen and a hat if you're sun sensitive. Typically parking spots available, even on a summer weekend. There are public restrooms nearby bit I've never been in, so I don't know what they're like."
"This dog park is huge for my 2 dogs to run around, it has mixed area of grassy area, sandy area and it is divided into small dog park and a big dog park. I have not seen any other huge dog park around San Diego. The park also have plenty of parking spot, restroom outside is available, there are playgrounds outside the dog park, Once in a while you’ll come to the park and you’ll see that the park is closed because of maintenance and there isn’t really any schedule because I had come in several times in different days and time, just to find out that it’s closed for maintenance. This is a good dog park for your dogs to socialize and exercise. Saturday and Sunday between 9:45 am-11:45 am there’s at least 30 dogs just in Small dog Area."
