"Steelhead fishing. There is a underwater sandbar between the pump tower and the rock across the river. Walk out from pump toward rock across river. It will get deep but then there is a sandbar that is only a foot or do under water. From there it is perfect to work very deep hole with fish that lays under the rock"
"Great spot if your doggo loves water, if you're a rock hound and/or would like to enjoy nature without too much of a drive. I live in Eureka, this was about 22 minutes. Worth it. The immediate area you park at has picnic tables and good area for playing, lots of grass and trees. If you walk one of the many paths down to the water, which is a relatively easy and short distance, you won't be let down. Water is shallow, this time of year (March 2022) and can be a bit stagnant on the rocks but is flowing good. My other half came down here with Humboldt Cal Poly, for a class, and did water samples. Safe to play in. If you're a solo person who decides they like to venture by water, bring some type of protection and/or be smart about your surroundings. Make sure someone always knows where you are. Also an easy spot for a weirdo to perch and wait. But enough of that... great place otherwise."
"This park is a lovely river access point close to town. A large parking lot and lot of room to gather. The driveway is rough gravel with many potholes so be sure to drive extra slow."
"Beautiful park and Mad River area with gravel and sand beaches, barbecue picnic area, group of drummers were playing in the park when we arrived. Great swimming holes, saw a few ropes to swing and jump in the water on the other side of the river. Beautiful place for a walk along the gravel and river, watching birds fly by and crawdads walk by in the water. Looking forward to swimming and fishing here. Frogs in the pond areas."
"Took my puppy Bell she had fun... Very clean and well maintained."
