"Long and wide beach with so much space on the sand and in the surf! The parking is good, the water nice and surfing ok. Lifeguard stations are spaced out enough to keep a lookout for all those in the water and those out jetty walking, fishing and viewing! There’s beach volleyball posts for stringing up the nets as needed. The section of beach here normally seems less crowded than beaches to the south near the piers and to the north, at the open lots off Pacific Coast Highway. Parking is available for free along Seashore Drive, tho at one’s own risk. Many homes here have little parking of their own, and I wouldn’t want to park out of convenience where they have to park otherwise. As it gets crowded, I’ve almost been stuck trying to get out, much less trying to load or unload boards or bikes in the back! Better safe than sorry and pick a paid spot on a busy day. Perhaps because it’s a residential beach, restrooms with rinsing showers aren’t so visible, so I fill up some water bottles to rinse the sand off. Restrooms are located at West Newport Park and at the foot of Orange Street."
