Cobb Estate
About the Business
Located in Altadena, California, United States, Cobb Estate is a popular tourist attraction with a fascinating history. Originally built by lumber magnate Charles Cobb in 1918, the estate was surrounded by rumors of being haunted, despite no actual sightings of ghosts. After Cobb's death, the property was deeded to the Pasadena Masons and later became a retreat for the Sisters of St. Joseph. However, it wasn't until the Marx Brothers bought the estate in 1956 that stories of strange noises and lights began to circulate.
The mansion was eventually torn down in 1959, and the land remained unused until 1971 when it was purchased by the city. Today, Cobb Estate is a well-known hiking destination, attracting outdoor enthusiasts who are not afraid of a possible ghostly encounter. The institution offers small-group adventures inspired by the Atlas of the world's most fascinating places, providing visitors with unique experiences and stories behind the locations they explore.

"Good hiking condition if you go early. The sun is block if you hike up earlier in the day (8am). So its cooler and easier in terms of temperature to deal with. Good distance 2.5 miles one way. No difficult spot, just a little longer than most and narrow path. (Not shoulder to shoulder, but it's not road path like potato mtn.)"
"Great hiking place! Amazing views. Be aware that the full stretch may be 3+ miles. We took a short cut and didn’t really follow a trail and then just walked back."
"Great park with awesome ruins. There are several trails that all pretty well maintained and marked. The hike itself is pretty easy to moderate if choose to take the trails to the top of the ridge. Not too crowded either. The parking is on the street though so be aware of signs."
"Beautiful hiking trail on the historic Cobb Estate. Beautiful iron and stone gate still stands. You can still see remnants of where a building stood. Great views of the San Gabriel valley and Los Angeles. Lots of cacti and other native plants. Gorgeously lit at golden hour. Moderate trails with several overlooks. Friendly hikers. Cute critters."
