"I appreciate that this place exists, I just don’t appreciate the fact that whoever owns this place preys on peoples emotions. I really don’t think the staff or Veterinarians are setting these prices, at least I would hope not. We brought our senior husky that was completely healthy and had a seizure out of nowhere. They said it was more than likely a brain tumor and they would want to keep him overnight for observation, that was $3500. Then he would need an MRI, which would be $5000. That wasn’t even including what we had to pay to step in the door that day which was $1500 for blood work and a prescription to phenobarbital for $180, you can get online the same drug and dose for under $20. So it would be $10k just to find out for sure he has a brain tumor before even starting any treatment. How on earth do you think normal people can afford this? I wish there were more competition in town for animal neurology, unfortunately they can get away with this because there is no competition. We are now trying to bring our dog to Tijuana for a MRI for $850, which is still expensive but much more reasonable. To top it off when we were told how much our visit would be they gave us an itemized sheet that said $1100, when we checked out it somehow went to $1500 with an added fee. $1500 to get blood work done and a prescription is unnecessary. I appreciate the people who work there that I am sure are highly stressed on a daily basis, as one of our vet techs seemed so anxious and stressed when she was talking to us. I wish I could tell you to try somewhere else but this was the closest emergency vet to us and most people in the San Diego area. Now we just sit and worry about our dog and fear the worst."
"Recently, we visited Sorrento Valley Veterinary Hospital twice for our cat Logan’s illness. We were so worried about our cat’s conditions then. However, Dr. Hipp and another young and tall male Dr. (Sorry! I didn’t get the Dr.’s name) were very patient and very thorough in their explanations to us regarding Logan‘s medical conditions. The technician Eden was also very kind and caring to our cat and to me too. He comforted me when I was very sad about Logan’s illness. Although we could not save our beloved cat Logan’s life and it was too sad for us to let him go at the end, Eden was so kind to offer us the help to take care of Logan for us. We really appreciate Eden’s kindness and thoughtfulness to us very much! We cannot thank the doctors and Eden enough at the Sorrento Valley Vet Hospital for their patience and kindness to us and to our Logan. We were so glad that we got the excellent and caring services for Logan from this hospital although we miss our cat very much! We sure will recommend Sorrento Valley Vet Hospital to any pet’s owners in case they need the services there for their pets in the future."
"My sweet dog, Izzy, was brought to the VSH on Tuesday night with severe anima and severe thrombocytopenia- despite the confusing medical terminology the Dr.’s and staff throughly explained what that meant for her and what kind of emergency care she was in need of. Their kindness and care to both us and Izzy has been 100% above and beyond. We received several honest updates throughout her 24hrs stay including, when they would be reaching out next. Thank you very much to all of the wonderful staff at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital 10/10 recommend."
"This is a very late review of my experience. My 5 year old Golden Retriever, Bruno was diagnosed with cancer. He was my first baby & I was completely broken when I got the news. I was recommended to see the oncologist (Dr. Phillips) at VSH Sorrento Valley. I drove from Chula Vista with 2 toddlers under 3 years old in tow. I was a complete mess. They got us in a room right away & by seeing his condition, they took him in overnight. He got a blood transfusion. They were quick to keep me updated. We were able to set up a treatment plan for Bruno because I was willing to try everything for my baby. Bruno continued to decline. We were there every single day for a whole week. Driving over an hour with my kids. My kids would get antsy inside so Dr. Phillips and the vet techs would meet us outside because it was all around easier for everyone. Thank you to the vet tech who even helped me, Bruno and my kids in the car. Bruno declined so rapidly and he didn't make it :( he passed at home, and it's still very painful for me to this day. Dr. Philips and the team were very sorry, but continued to keep in touch with me afterwards. I always had so many questions and they were always happy to answer. They even added Bruno's name to the mural outside & emailed me a picture of it. I was able to visit and see it in person. Thank you for taking care of my Bruno to the absolute best of your ability :)"
"My pup Boomer was dealing what we thought was a UTI of some sort but was not getting better. He would go outside for hours at a time attempting to pee with very little success. After draining over 1 litter of fluid from his bladder, my primary vet suggested I take him to VEG in Encinitas. I was there for a few hours and after an ultra sound they could not figure out if his inability to pee involved his prostate. They recommended I take him to see a specialist at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital in Sorrento Valley. I took him to the Veterinary Specialty Hospital that same day and he was transferred to their internal medicine department the next day. They had a group of knowledgeable professionals working together for a couple weeks to figure out what was wrong with him including Dr. Robb and Dr. Fryer. The communication was timely and well appreciated all throughout the process and they were finally able figure out what was wrong with Boomer (benign mass pushing up against his urethra) and fix him. He no longer has to rely on a catheter and is able to pee freely on his own. He is comfortable and happy again which makes me so happy as a pet owner. If your pet is in need of any medical attention...I'd highly recommend the Veterinary Specialty Hospital. Your pet will be in the best hands!!!!"
