"My 8 year old girl has taken Judo at Bojuka Ryu since she was 5. Her experience has been wonderful in so many ways. I noticed a big boost in her confidence within just a couple months of having started. She went from being shy and easily intimidated to outgoing and self assured. Then I began seeing her leadership skills developing. Not only is she learning Judo from her wonderful Senseis but she is learning how to teach Judo to the little ones who are just starting. She takes this responsibility serseriously and is proud of it. All the kids take turns "opening class" by leading the warmup exercises. They then practice techniques led by the Senseis. The kids get paired up with all other kids regardless of gender, size or experience. Towards the end of class they take turns fighting, one pair at a time as they would in a tournament. On weekends they get to play fun games at the end of class. The kids have the option/opportunity to participate in Judo Tournaments where they fight kids from other Dojos. This gives them a chance to compete and develop good sportsmanship. Mine LOVES tournaments regardless of weather she places or not. Over the past 3 years, through Bojuka Ryu's Judo program, my daughter has developed wonderful friendships with kids younger and older than she is. She has met and developed great learning relationships with excellent male and female role models. My little girl's goal is to earn her blackbelt so she can be a Sensei too. She is kind, respectful, secure and most importantly; my daughter has developed a spirit of never giving up."
"After two months of the same class, little was learned. First 15-20 minutes of class is spent learning from other students, not the instructors because the Owner is busy talking with parents of children in prior and upcoming class. Classes are back to back so little time for instructors to rest and they instead spend the first 15-20 minutes hardly with the class that is just beginning. Newcomers get very little 1:1 time with head instructors and instead are paired with other students, and even being taught the wrong way to do things because of this. Some days there are a large group of people others there is maybe 4 students. Obvious favorites in class get more focus time as opposed to someone just starting out and needing that 1:1 time. Definitely a place that is geared for children and hardly athletes who want to train hard and actually learn martial arts. Classes also start with static stretches as opposed to a proper warm up. Also, seems the instructors have egos and aren’t willing to work with someone just starting out and would always go towards their “friends.”"
"My son has struggled with confidence for a long time. He was awkward in his body and in social interactions. He has been in Judo for months now and has become stronger and better coordinated. He is more comfortable in his body and in interacting with others."
"Sensei Janine is a wonderful teacher and mentor. If you are looking for a new workout, want to feel empowered, lose weight and learn to protect yourself, sign up! The dojo offers womens judo, bojuka (combo of karate and judo), co-ed classes, and childrens classes. The instructors are so supportive, attentive and insightful to help you improve. I have been learning at the dojo for the last few months and I feel so empowered! Thank you!"
"I train in the school in 1993 for about three years with family. In the class were my daughter and wife Denise and Christine Williams from Helsa, Germany. My Name Andy Williams, in the time I was Sensei Andy Williams. Now I’m a 5th Dan in Germany. To me and my family the school was the best Martial Arts school. BOJUKA RYU and the BPSA made you have a family as one and we work as one to be the best Martial Arts School in CA… Tell all HI and keep the good Name BOJUKA RYU…"
