"I'm 2 weeks post op and had a wonderful experience with Dr. Yu. I am really glad we chose to go with him for laprascopic removal. I had one fairly large fibroid on the outside of my uterus. I met with 5 different doctors. The first 2 doctors were in August 2021 when I found out I had the fibroid. They were covered by my insurance, so I started there. They both said they could only perform an open myomectomy. With not experiencing any symptoms at the time, that seemed like a really big surgery and not the right answer. I decided to hold off and perhaps try and get pregnant since the placement of the fibroid wouldn't effect pregnancy. I was referred to another doctor that does non-invasive acessa treatment. I met with the doctor, but didn't click with them right away. It was cash pay, fairly expensive and at this point my fibroid had grown to 12cm. Acessa wouldn't remove the fibroid but would essentially heat it up with a probe, killing it and it would then hopefully shrink 40-60%, but that's still a huge, dead mass in my body. I asked that doctor for a referral just to get another opinion about laprascopic because he believed if I wanted laprascopic, his peers could do it. I met with Dr. Yu and another in SF (SF was covered by insurance, so why not). I really liked Dr. Yu as soon as I met him. He is down to earth, confident and you just want to put your trust in his hands. I still went to SF, just to check, and the doctor was definitely not the right fit. The SF doctor also specializes in endometriosis and tried to convince me that I probably have endometriosis too and should get a biopsy. I realized very quickly he was not the right fit. I called up Dr. Yu and we scheduled surgery. I was a nervous wreck before surgery, although Dr. Yu was really understanding. I mistakenly got on a FB group for fibroids and myomectomy and the stories on there can be a nightmare. He told me to get out of the FB group and I did. Surgery with Dr. Yu went so well and I would choose him a thousand times over again. The surgery was successful. Two days post surgery I didn't need to take any pain meds. I work from home and started work calls again the same week (4 days after surgery), entertained friends 4 days after surgery, went back to work full time the following week. I just saw Dr. Yu for my post op appointment and everything is healing perfectly and I was cleared to workout again, 2 WEEKS POST SURGERY. Not to mention, my fibroid had grown even more and was in a very complicated place. I truly believe that if I didn't have Dr. Yu as my surgeon, it would not have been as successful and would not have been performed laparoscopically. Without a doubt, go with Dr. Yu, if he says he can take on your case."

"Dr. Steve Yu and his staff are excellent. I had 7 fibroids, two of which were large (10cm). One of the two large fibroids was in a logistically difficult place. Other surgeons would only perform an open myomectomy, creating a large incision, increasing the risk and the healing time. Dr. Yu is incredibly talented. I did my research and he is the premier doctor in Southern California for organ sparing minimally invasive laparoscopic myomectomies. I only have 4 small incisions on my abdomen, of which I'm almost completely healed from two weeks later. A benefit of this procedure is that it is outpatient, and I was able to go home that night. Both Dr. Yu and Ashleigh Pinedo NP were available by cell phone and got back to me quickly when I had questions during my recovery. After the surgery, I was in minimal pain and was surprised at how quickly I could resume normal activities. I was worried about my fibroids for years but put off their removal off because I was afraid of surgery (I've never had one before), and I cannot express the relief I feel now that this is over. After my surgery was done, Dr. Yu expressed to me that he balanced well the priorities of preserving my uterus and ensuring that I'll never need another myomectomy again. I am so fortunate that I found Dr. Yu. In addition to being a very talented surgeon, he also is very accessible and available, kind, confident, trustworthy, and ethical. He was always available when I had questions pre-surgery (which I had lots of), and I could tell by the way that he answered my questions that he was being honest. I could also tell he was incredibly confident as whenever I had a question about complications it almost seemed foreign to him like these things never happen. I felt safe trusting him. He is the perfect doctor. His staff is also amazing. Everyone treats you like family, and I felt like each person remembered me and knew who I was. They quickly responded to all of my inquiries. They were also very on top of handling my payment and insurance questions. I knew exactly how much I was going to pay for the surgery going in. No surprises. Jodi was my advocate in dealing with my insurance company and the hospital and helped me get everyone on the same page. I cannot recommend more highly Dr. Yu and his team. "I am typically very private with my medical history, but given the incredible experience I had with Dr. Yu, I feel the need to share! Hopefully this will help someone else who finds themself in a similar situation. Women’s health is often very misunderstood and there are so many doctors out there that don’t give the specific care and attention women need especially when it comes to reproductive health. I am truly so blown away by Dr. Steve Yu as my doctor and surgeon. He is an incredible surgeon leading the way in minimally invasive laparoscopic gynecological surgery. Ladies, please know that there are doctors out there, such as Dr. Yu, who can perform minimally invasive surgery! The procedure is quick, the recovery is quick, and your body experiences the least amount of trauma possible! My first ovarian cyst was diagnosed in 2014 when I was only 20 years old. It was a scary situation to find myself in since the cyst was quite large and caused episodes of extreme pain. My gynecologist at the time referred me to Dr. Yu. From my first meeting with Dr. Yu to my post op appointment, he treated me with such kindness and understanding, helping to guide me through the stress of my first surgery experience. He performed an incredibly successful laparoscopic surgery and was able to remove the large cyst as well as save my damaged ovary and fallopian tube. Fast forward to 2021 (7 years since my first surgery), I was unfortunately diagnosed with another large cyst. This time I didn't have any episodes of pain to indicate to me that I had another cyst. It grew to 16 cm (large grapefruit sized) before I noticed bulging and bloating in my abdomen. My current gynecologist looked me in the eyes after looking through my ultrasound imaging and told me that laparoscopy will likely not be an option due to the size of the cyst and that there was a chance that she would not be able to save the ovary. She said it was likely she would have to cut my abdomen open and that recovery would take months. "My friend referred me to Dr. Yu for fibroid surgery. For years I was reluctant to get treatment because numerous doctors said that I need a hysterectomy, which is something I was really scared of. When I met Dr. Yu he immediately made me feel at ease and comfortable. He was very warm and sincere. After getting a MRI we met again and reviewed all the images.
