Butterbird

"I’ve gone to Butterbird several times and have loved each experience. I’ve been making my way down the sandwich menu and finishing my daughter’s kids boxes (chicken tenders and Mac n cheese bites). Standouts for me have been the rotisserie chicken sandwich and their smash burger. Fries are great, broccoli salad is great, the coleslaw is great. The green garlic mayo! Whoa. Also enjoyed the butterbird punch and old fashioned which they have on draft. The soft serve is a perfect finish. The space itself is beautiful! Like a hidden sexy retro New York subway station with great music and classic 80’s & 90’s movies running on their tv’s (which blend into the space strangely well). Anyway, highly recommend! Worth the line. Bring a friend and have a conversation while you wait!"

"The chicken sandwich was one of the best ones I’ve ever had (clearly phone did not eat first). Their margs on tap were also so yummy! The restaurant is cute and all of the staff is very friendly and super quit! We also loved the ice cream! My only critique is that it’s a bit over priced for the food you’re getting."

"Visited Butterbird in Madison with friends for a casual dinner and found the overall experience delightful. The place was bustling, leading to a 20-minute wait, but the staff remained incredibly friendly amidst the rush. For starters, the Mac and cheese bites are a must-try – they're exceptional. The fries were decent too. I'd probably skip the mozzarella sticks next time; they were more breading than cheese. I opted for a chicken sandwich, which was tasty, though it didn't quite hit the "wow" factor I was hoping for. My friends tried the chicken tenders and a 2-piece chicken meal. The tenders were a hit, while the chicken meal was good but could have used a tad more salt for perfection. We rounded off the meal with soft serve ice cream. Although delicious, there seemed to be a mix-up with the billing as the portions appeared larger (and pricier) than expected. The ambiance at Butterbird truly stands out, making it a great spot not just for locals but also for visitors. I'm eager to return and explore more of the menu, particularly those Mac and cheese bites again. Despite a couple of hiccups, it's a worthy addition to Madison's dining scene."

"I'm expecting this to become my go to family restaurant. The menu is full of crowd pleasers - the chicken sandwiches (especially rotisserie), the smash burger, the draft cocktails (especially the long island ice tea), the ice cream... All the food is A+, super fast, plenty of options for the kids as well as both healthy and unhealthy/delicious options and cocktails for the adults. Combine that with lovely service, board games, punch tabs, and a claw machine, and TVs and I'm expecting to spend many evenings here with the kids."

"The Papach family might as well change their last name to Midas, because everything they touch turns to gold. The team that brought you the understated elegance and refined dishes of The Harvey House switched gears, turned up the volume, and turned on the fryers. You can now indulge in some proper greasy fare in Central Madison while still maintaining your dignity. Butterbird has all the fantastic flair and attention to detail found at Harvey House, at a price point available to adults and students alike. Get ready to have some fun while you're here. Be sure to check out the photo booth in the back of the restaurant and pin your photo strip to the wall. Oh, and yes, the pins you'll use to do that ARE shaped like little chickens. Attention to detail, folks. That's what these people excel at! Our fried chicken was hands-down the best in the area. Don't like Cole slaw? I don't give a cluck! You'll like their version, I can almost guarantee it. Oh, and they clear the table for you when you're done. This ain't no average counter-service chicken joint, folks. Fly you and your brood over to Butterbird before word gets out!"
