"Gang member students have took over this establishment. Was a customer for over 30 years. Very rude ,foul language and threatening. Please do not take your family there."
"I think the hair cut price went up $9 and up (still a deal), but everything has been going up in price. I tell them what hairstyle I want and they always come through. Due to the Pandemic hours have been cut Tuesday - Friday 8:30 am to 12:00 noon. Make sure you are there early. And you also help students practice ."
"I grew up in the area. This school is a historic building. I had been looking forward to attending school here for years. I hit several road blocks trying to get in. While I was making arrangements to get enrolled, I began to meet people who had nothing good to say about the school. They claimed she didn't teach them anything and they were having trouble passing the licensing test. But I ignored the negativity. I really wanted to attend the school. I understood that the owner was a young Latina, single mom, running the show by herself. I felt like supporting her. But I regret that move from the pit of my stomach! On the first day, I realized the rumors were true. She doesn't teach. I already have a cosmetology licence and had already invested 1000 hours of barber school somewhere else. This school was the only school (to my knowledge) that offered a cross over program where I should have finished my barber class in 200 hours. But in the short time I was there, I realized this school is a sham. She charges more than nearby, updated schools. The kits are given in pieces and it's highly likely you won't get everything until your close to graduating. The kits consist of the cheapest tools that you probably won't use in the workplace. She does not give you a case or box to carry your stuff in. She plays favorites, awarding her faves with nice tools and extra equipment that isn't even necessary in a barbershop. Her people skills are horrendous! She's rude, controlling, insecure, and a little paranoid. She has her brother follow students after school to report to her who hangs out with who and what they do after school. Her elderly mother follows you around in the school, popping her head in as you step out of the bathroom, checking on you when you wash your hands, spying on you when you open your locker. Any time you look in a mirror, one of them is staring right back at you. Her classroom, where she's supposed to teach, hadn't been used in three months. She hated me from day one when she realized other students were coming to me for help. She took me into the classroom to discuss her concerns, and the odor of cat urin and moth balls slapped me in the face when she opened the door. She feels the need to interrogate students about other students. She uses people to display her authority. She doesn't have students practice properly to be ready for the licensing test. She cuts corners everywhere to save money and in the end, the students come out with very little skills, questioning their knowledge, and struggling to pass the test. She never teaches students how to mix hair color, how to look for diseases and disorders, how to disinfect tools, not even one lesson on how to use clippers, so you may contract some strange skin disease while getting a haircut there. When I brought all this to her attention, I got kicked out. There are other schools nearby with plush furnishings, that charge less and teach more. You can also enroll in an apprentice program and get paid while you learn. This place is a business and she's going to cut corners as much as possible so she can pay for her luxuries on your dime. Public school provides a way better education and equipment. You can also check out Trade Tech, Abraham Friedman Occupational Center, Trade School on Shatto Pl.,Cosmetica Latina in Downey, ZMS in highland park, Paul Mitchell in Pasadena, or even the Alhambra Beauty College. But don't waste your time here!"
"As far as haircuts, you get what you pay for. Don't get me wrong, there are some talented barber's in the class, but their stay is limited. Thinking about enrolling? Think again! This is a private school, a business. One lady runs the whole place by herself. Everything from keeping stock, running the front desk, doing paper work, running errands."
"Over friendly, if there's someone you particularly like cutting your hair, you can ask for them (provided they're there). And you can tip them for a well done job, if you so desire. There was one who I like, she was fast, efficient, and really knew her job. I would've gone wherever she went to after graduating but, unfortunately, she decided to go to college to persue her study in animation."
